I have quite a few tracks from my MP3-ac collection—mostly stuff from the 50s and 60s—where I’m honestly stumped on who the actual artists are.
I think I might have heard somewhere that there are apps out there where you just play a song, and it identifies both the performer and the title for you.
Does anyone here happen to know anything about how those work?

If you're working on a PC, there's this little utility called Tunatic, and if you're using your phone, Shazam is pretty much the gold standard! Just a heads-up though—neither of them is truly magic; they tend to be way more accurate with international artists than they are with local ones.

Whenever I run into a song where I don't recognize the singer or the title, I just listen closely to the lyrics and type them into YouTube—it works like a charm and finds what I'm looking for every single time.

How are you supposed to play a song if you don't even know what it is?

btw. if you're on Android, just grab Shazam and call it a day.

In my collection of MP3-acs, I’ve got quite a few tracks from the 50s and 60s where the artist is a total mystery to me. It would be a different story if I didn't have the files on my computer or couldn't make out the lyrics—that would be a much tougher spot to be in.

But nowadays, you just hit play, type what you hear into YouTube, and boom—you've found the song title and the artist in no time.

By the way—if you’re running an iOS device—just grab Shazam! It's honestly that simple.

It doesn't even have to be an iOS phone! Heck, I remember when this stuff worked on Symbian!
