Issues with HP printer after refilling ink cartridges

So I’ve got this HP PSC 1410 printer that was working perfectly fine until I refilled the cartridges yesterday, and once I popped them back in and ran a "clean cartridge" command, the whole thing just started spitting out this weird reddish tint instead of actual colors, yet the machine isn't even throwing an error code or anything. There is absolutely no way the heads are clogged because the damn thing was printing flawlessly just ten minutes before I messed with the ink, so I'm not buying that excuse. Does anyone actually know what the hell is going on here?

How many times have you refilled them?

If this isn't your first time doing it, then they're really on you—just go ahead and grab some new ones...

I’ve refilled these damn things twice already, and then some guy goes and fills them a third time today, and now I get home and the whole thing is acting up again.
And check this out—tonight I grabbed some cartridges from my buddy who bought his printer about four years ago; he just stopped using it once the ink ran out, so these things have been sitting there for three years straight and they're completely dried up. Is there any actual chance I can soak these in some cleaning solution and get them working again, considering they haven't even been refilled before?
