Honestly, ditch that Corsair cooler—it's totally overkill when you've already got the Cooler Master, and you're just throwing money away at this point.

You could easily stick with those Logitech peripherals we talked about earlier since they give you way more bang for your buck, though I know it's all about what you personally want.

graniteharbor85 said:From what I can gather, you’ve mostly been suggesting AMD setups where those CPUs act as a bottleneck for an R9 280 or even an RTX 3060—which, granted, isn't happening in every single title, but you definitely feel the sting in those more CPU-heavy games.

So, you got called out right here 😉

Well, if that's how we're playing it, then fine! 😉

Ended up with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 by mistake... grabbing this slightly better one instead, price difference is basically nothing.

Check if the dimensions actually fit in your case first.

Look, just stick with the Cooler Master—you don't really need a beefier cooler. You mentioned in our DMs that you aren't planning on overclocking, and even if you did, that Cooler Master is plenty to hit 4.2-4.3GHz, which is pretty much the ceiling for that motherboard anyway. Seriously, don't waste your cash if you don't have to.

Besides, your iPhone case already offers great airflow, and honestly, either cooler will fit inside without any issues.

Quick favor—I need some OS advice so I don't have to clutter up the Software subforum with a whole new thread. Which version of Windows is actually the best for gaming? Since I want this rig to run perfectly, I might even consider grabbing an official license.

Personally, I’m still a huge fan of Windows 7 64-bit SP1—it just feels like a more serious OS, you know? It's way more productive for work, but honestly, it's just as good for messing around, and for me, it's much more straightforward to navigate. If you're really craving those newer apps, the updated interface, DX 11.2, or full UEFI support, then yeah, go ahead and jump over to W8.1 64-bit. But honestly, you can't really go wrong with either one when it comes to gaming.

Check out this link for the Windows 7 64-bit SP1 installer. It's exactly what you need. ???

Honestly, man—don't go buying that. You're basically just throwing money down the drain! Just grab a cracked version instead; you can get it installed easily enough and then you won't have to worry about it anymore. ☕

Pirated software that doesn't even get updates? Great... just great.

Then you go ahead and drop a torrent link right next to it and wonder why you got banned for piracy. Not the brightest move.

@Conan, there are always exceptions.

Well then, why don't you just $267 go ahead and "update" it every single day 🤣

Here you go Windows 7 SP1 x64,x86 all versions Basically, it's totally legit and free—just the original setup straight from Microsoft. By that, I mean nothing has been messed with or tweaked like those sketchy versions you find on torrent sites. Once you download it from the link provided, you'll have an ISO file; just burn it to a blank DVD so you always have a backup ready to go. When you start the installation and hit the part where it asks for a product key, just skip that step. After the install finishes, you can just Google how to activate Windows 7, or better yet, shoot me a private message here on the forum and I'll send you a link... 👍 Then you'll have fully activated Windows ready to roll—it passes Microsoft validation perfectly, so you can run Windows Update and everything else without any issues. Honestly, it'll be just like you bought the software at Best Buy..

Can someone help me out here? A friend of mine is using a Gigabyte motherboard—I'm not entirely sure which specific model, but it definitely has a UEFI BIOS. He found this setting, I can't recall the exact name, but it mentions Windows 8 and then says "Other OS" right next to it. Could someone explain what that actually implies? Does it mean he has full UEFI BIOS support, or am I misunderstanding what that setting does?

EDIT My mistake, let me be more precise. This is what it shows him: Windows 8 Features Other OS

He currently has Windows 7 installed...

If you're planning on dropping cash on an official OS, you might be better off putting that money toward an SSD instead. If you upgrade to a 120GB or 128GB drive, you'll feel the difference immediately—it's like switching from a bicycle to a sports car. Honestly, about 90% of people just use unofficial versions, and they work perfectly fine.

I honestly believe that while your intention is to help everyone who walks through these digital doors, you’re actually being counterproductive—especially when you flip-flop on your opinions regarding graphics cards several times within a single ten-hour window. It just ends up confusing the poor person seeking actual advice, and frankly, it creates a bit of an awkward vibe for the rest of us hanging out here. Now, don't get me wrong—I'm certainly no saint myself—but I really can't stand it when someone lacks a firm sense of their own perspective. And that's not even mentioning the rest of the crowd on this forum who basically just act like a mindless echo chamber—people who spend 90% of their time lurking in the gambling sub-forums rather than contributing anything meaningful. Not to mention that massive misconception floating around about the GTX 980 being inferior to the R9 380; that claim is fundamentally flawed, specifically in cases where... $1000 Look, if we’re talking about that $2,500 price point—well, if the prices are identical, there’s really no point in even debating it, is there? It's a non-issue. I’ve been lurking around this hardware subforum for quite a long time now, and honestly, I’ve seen just about everything—from people making absolute messes of their PC builds to some truly wild, baseless claims and, frankly, some pretty immature attitudes from certain users here. My philosophy has always been simple: go for whatever gives you the best bang for your buck. I stick to that rule, period. If that doesn't sit well with some of you, fine—but please, don't try to lecture me by implying I don't know the difference between NVIDIA and AMD or other similar little catchphrases. Honestly, those kinds of arguments just make me laugh... ☕

Guys, I need some advice, Emergency. Micro Center doesn't have the Asus M5A97 R2 in stock. They've got two alternatives instead—I don't care if they cost a bit more, which one should I grab?

Also, they're out of the Sapphire R9 280 x, but they have an XFX version. Is that basically the same thing???

Thanks!!!

EDIT - figured it out 🙂
