Upgrading USB 2.0 to 3.0 on a desktop PC

It’s honestly not even that big of a deal. On my laptop, when I'm running on 2.0, I’m barely pulling 5MB/s while moving files

but once you switch over to 3.0, you're hitting 80MB/s with a standard 3.0 flash drive.

If you're moving several gigabytes of data every single day—and if your budget can handle the hit—then yeah, go ahead and upgrade that motherboard..

uh, I can't really swap out the motherboard right now... the PC just arrived
and I don't exactly have the time to be moving files back and forth constantly, though maybe once every ten days or so, if I'm lucky...

Then there isn't much to overthink—but if that becomes the daily routine, then we're looking at a whole different story..

By the way, that FM2 platform with the A75 chipset features USB 3.0, so you really should have gone with that one.

But that was just a pre-built setup
so if I go out and buy that now, what am I actually getting? Is that even a real fix? Like, will it actually speed up my data transfers or what?

Well, you'll have USB 3.0 speeds once you plug things in. 😁

It's just a controller that plugs into a PCI slot on your motherboard, and then your USB ports are located on the back.

And honestly, you really ought to get a dedicated controller... It just plugs right into the motherboard, and then you’ve got two extra USB 3.0 ports sitting there right behind the board.

You guys are seriously the best, thank you so much... I'm still totally on the fence about whether I'll actually pull the trigger on this, but man, thanks again!!!
