Hello,

I have been looking into the Dell Latitude 3000 series to handle some basic Microsoft Office tasks, web browsing, and a few casual games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1, 2, and 3, Minecraft, Farming Simulator 15 and 17, and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare.

The device would primarily be used by my wife and our son.

This would serve as a secondary laptop alongside my Dell Latitude 5000 series and my desktop PC, so I am not particularly concerned about having a massive hard drive, a perfect display, or even an SSD. My main priorities are a capable processor, 4GB of RAM that allows for future upgrades, and a decent graphics card to support the games I mentioned earlier.

What are your thoughts or recommendations?

That GPU isn't exactly winning any awards. As you can see, most games are hitting the red zone even on minimal settings, which means they aren't actually playable. Even if the titles you mentioned aren't heavy hitters, I’d still hunt for something with a better graphics card.

If you want to play anything at all, you really should aim for at least a 940m, but pairing that with an i3 usually bumps up the price. In this specific budget range, you're looking at the 920m , which actually outperforms that AMD chip.

Now, this one isn't a bad deal—it's got an i3 (an older generation, sure) and an 840m, which is basically identical to the 940m.

It’ll get the job done. The processor is a bit weaker than an i3, but it’s plenty for basic tasks.

The downside? The build quality is easily the worst in its class.
