Forum piracy/leaks?

Since when did mentioning a general site like libgen.org count as piracy? I guess by that logic, bringing up YouTube is also piracy—given there’s an endless amount of pirated content on there. Not to mention Google, with all those pirated links just sitting right there.
Does anyone here actually understand what copyright infringement even means?

We’ve never allowed links to piracy, adult content, or anything of that nature here. That predecessor site you're talking about got shut down for the exact same reasons they took down The Pirate Bay. Those books listed there? Yeah, they aren't exactly legally uploaded. I don't really buy your comparison to YouTube, either, because YouTube reacts immediately every single time a copyright claim is filed. These guys? Not even close. 😛

How much is a site like Reddit actually obligated to "protect copyrights" when they aren't even making a dime off it?
To me, it makes sense that you shouldn't be dropping direct links to copyrighted material, but what's the point of stifling free speech over it? Just mentioning that a specific site exists where stuff can be found isn't some crime—it's literally just free speech.

Nowadays, private individuals are way too subservient to legal technicalities regarding copyright—this is nothing more than extreme self-censorship.
