rustydrifter10 said:Ecokun gave you the full rundown. You can always retire this account and start fresh, but you aren't allowed to post under two different handles on the same thread. Plus, on certain subforums, you have to stick to one identity across all topics. 🙂

...that's what rustydrifter10 wrote a few years back.

I seem to be running into this exact same explanation lately....

But why is it that over in the Formula 1 subforum, a certain user has been tolerated using two different handles on the same thread for years?

Specifically, the thread is here:

I'm sure the moderators over there know exactly which user and which handles I'm talking about.

It is common knowledge that we are dealing with the same user here, especially since he makes no effort to hide that this was his former handle; he isn't trying to mislead anyone. Furthermore, if one looks at the last post in that thread under that old username, it dates all the way back to June 2008. Given these facts, I request that this pointless thread be closed immediately.

Look, once a user retires their old handle, they can actually get permission to start posting under a new one right away, so I really don't see what the big deal is if things are playing out the way William Bennett53 says they are.

It’s a safe bet that you’ve got multiple people under one roof sharing a single computer.
Isn't it kind of ridiculous that everyone is forced to use the exact same username..?

Look, rules are rules and you have to follow them—period—but reality is reality, so it wouldn't hurt to actually address the question above.

A ton of people write like that—it doesn't mean they haven't been banned before. An IP address isn't the only way to verify someone.

Am I allowed to address him by his old nickname?

It's permitted over in the football subforum, which falls under the jurisdiction of the same head moderator (The edge), right?

You can't do that!

Just ask the man; if he says he can do it, he can. If he can't, then I fail to see why anyone should be formally permitted to address him by a handle that went dark years ago. But then again, you already know all this, don't you? I really don't understand why a veteran forum member with your level of experience needs to come here and pose such a question...

I honestly don't get why you're digging up stuff like this.
If someone switches handles, who cares...
And it's not like he's running two accounts at once. His last post was over five years ago—seriously, what are you even doing?
I can't tell if you're trying to take a dig at him, but it feels pretty uncalled for.

Look, generally speaking, you shouldn't. I mean, if a moderator tells you straight up and clearly that it’s allowed, then fine—I won't argue with that—even though I honestly don't see much point in doing it, and it’ll probably just end up confusing everyone else on the board anyway.
