I'm looking for my best friend's obituary... specifically, one that’s been officially published
I can find bits and pieces about him online—death notices, tributes, even an article covering his tragic accident—but I can't find any specific details on the websites of funeral homes in Washington, D.C.

I don't actually know which funeral home handled everything, and honestly, I'm not even sure if they'd be willing to give me a copy of the obituary.
If they did, what kind of requirements would I have to meet?
Is being his close friend enough, or would I need to get permission from his parents first?

Going back to his family's place to ask for the obituary isn't really an option right now (there are some unresolved issues there), and since he passed away so recently, I really don't want to reopen any old wounds.
😢

If the passing was recent, you might find one posted on a community bulletin board near a local cemetery. A friend of mine lost someone dear to her once; we were just kids back then, and we actually ended up "borrowing" an obituary right off the wall where it had been tacked up.

I had the exact same thought...
But I'm actually out of town right now, away from Washington, D.C., so it feels a little awkward telling people they should be looking for her just around the neighborhood 🙂

I honestly have no clue how to track her down... even Google isn't giving me much to work with :/

Not happening, no way
They just print them based on the numbers requested by the deceased's family
If there's any left over and they aren't stuck somewhere, his folks probably have them at their house

That’s a bummer, then.

Thanks for getting back to me.

The number of participants is definitely low. Standard black and white prints go for about $15, while color versions start at $6.75 and climb from there.
That means even when you factor in printing, we're looking at a tiny turnout. A realistic average would be somewhere between 5 and 10 people.
