I honestly think this is straight-up terror
The threads being opened here—whether they are posts, complaints, or just general comments—get shut down in record time, and for absolutely no reason whatsoever. They don't even bother providing an explanation.

Take the latest situation with Splende, for example. rustydrifter10 claimed she wasn't starting threads just for the sake of it, or that they were "pointless."

But what exactly defines a "pointless" thread?
The person made a comment, right? A post? Of course a new thread is going to be created once rustydrifter10 shuts down the group discussion, which, if you ask me, is just ridiculous. rustydrifter10 even admitted herself that we should start new topics, yet now suddenly new topics aren't welcome?

It feels like rustydrifter10 just doesn't want to moderate this section of the forum, so she just nukes threads without giving any users the chance to respond—not even one or two replies before it's gone.

What’s your take on all this?

And look, it isn't just about Splende; it's about the overall vibe of this entire place.

Just to clarify how things work here—when we say "you," we’re actually addressing the administration team. Basically, all questions and discussion topics are intended for them. Also, just a heads-up that we don't allow threads specifically about other forum members or any potential disagreements they might have with the staff.

As far as starting new threads goes, you are more than welcome to jump in! We love seeing new discussions, provided they stay constructive, polite, specific, and follow all the community guidelines. Honestly, the female user you're referring to hasn't been posting anything like that at all.

Look, rustydrifter10, give it a rest for a second. If you look at the messages posted above, it’s clear there's an issue here. Why shouldn't other users be allowed to chime in on this? I'm not even talking about how the admins run things; I'm talking about this specific problem—how incredibly fast threads are being shut down.

Where exactly am I supposed to discuss this? Just tell me where, and I'll go start a thread there. But there isn't anywhere else. In my view, this is exactly the right place for these discussions, and if you stifle this conversation, then you’ve effectively staged a takeover of this entire forum where the rules don't apply anymore—except for your own little set of rules.

Am I wrong though?

Take a look at the PŽK boards for a second and you’ll see that threads aren't just shut down out of nowhere; they stay open until the actual issue that started the conversation gets hashed out. You're talking as if nobody is allowed to vent or blow off steam here, but honestly, that couldn't be further from the truth. Most of these topics stay active, and I really hope that every single one gets a proper response—because if one hasn't been addressed, then that’s clearly an oversight on our part. Every complaint gets looked into, a decision is reached, and then it's officially documented and carried out. That’s literally what this PDF is designed to do.

That’s just the impression I walked away with, which is exactly why I’m reaching out to see what everyone else thinks here. I honestly believe this thread would be beneficial if we kept it going—if it turns into nothing but off-topic noise or spam, then by all means, lock it down. But if we get some actual substance, whether it's constructive criticism or genuine praise, then I don't see any harm in it. Like I said, my gut feeling is that there wasn't enough information provided before the previous thread was shut down, and frankly, it's frustrating to see people constantly opening three different threads just to ask the same single question.

Justin Harris12 said:...well, I often see people here opening up three different threads all about the exact same question.

Well, you just saw how that works, didn't you? Those extra threads are really just a byproduct of that first one being nothing more than a rude, baseless attack with absolutely nothing for us to actually discuss or debate. This thread would be incredibly useful if we were just closing out legitimate, sensible complaints, but honestly, one quick look at the PDF tells you everything you need to know—it’s clear things aren't working like that. Very few topics actually get deleted on this board, and whenever they do, there's always a rock-solid reason behind it.

rustydrifter10 said:. It’s rare to see threads deleted here, though when they are, there's usually a damn good reason behind it.

But let's not ignore the fact that they get locked down instead—just look at this page, then the one before it, and the one before that (and occasionally, things do vanish entirely)...
And I have to ask, why is it that you feel the need to speak to users with such blatant condescension, treating grown adults like unruly children? This kind of forced conditioning will eventually just breed more of the very users you're trying to control...

Melissa Walker86 said:But that’s exactly why they’re shutting things down—if you just take a look at the website, then check the page right after that, and even the one following that (and honestly, some of them are just getting wiped from existence entirely).

Look, I totally get why people get frustrated when a thread gets locked, but honestly? It makes perfect sense to close certain topics once they've run their course. There’s really no point in letting them sit there indefinitely if everything that needs to be said has already been laid out on the table. If we kept them open, we’d just end up spinning our wheels and going in circles over the exact same arguments forever, and I think we can all agree that would just be a massive waste of everyone's time.

Melissa Walker86 said:I've got just one question for you: why on earth are you being so incredibly rude to everyone here? Honestly, why do you feel the need to talk down to people like they’re little kids?

I’m really not trying to be rude here, so I honestly have no idea where you're getting that impression! Look, I know there are times when I can come across as a bit more formal or strictly business-like, but that’s just me being professional—it definitely isn't meant to be disrespectful.

rustydrifter10 said:Of course certain threads get locked; there’s no point in letting them linger if everyone is just going to end up talking in circles...
Most of the topics are still open.

No, actually, most of the threads are closed. It isn't just that "some" themes are being shut down; rather, they are being closed quite frequently. If that's the case, what is even the purpose of this section of the forum? What function does it serve? To vent frustration, perhaps, because a thread being abruptly slammed shut feels less like moderation and more like a direct slight against the user...

I am not being rude, and I have no idea where you're getting that impression from. There are times when my tone becomes bureaucratic or overly formal, but that is hardly the same thing as being insolent...

You are being rude, and I don't need much evidence beyond seeing how you responded to that user whose thread you locked. Furthermore, you handed me 35 points for trolling—and strictly speaking, regarding the trolling—while claiming my post was useless. It was nothing more than a joke. How can one possibly look someone in the eye and tell them their contribution was useless?...

The sheer audacity is also evident in the way penalties are handed out. For instance, this user (Splenda) was slapped with 100 points for opening pointless threads, yet the thread where I earned those 35 points—which was subsequently deleted—was penalized with 30 points, despite being just as trivial. Even the triple criterion thread, which I found quite amusing and certainly didn't think warranted a penalty, was hit with 35 points for trolling. You see, it's offensive because it lacks any sense of fairness or equality; you treat us users like unruly little children who are expected to simply swallow your selective explanations... and it's plain to see. Quite brazen, if you ask me...

Melissa Walker86 said:How can you just tell someone their post is useless?

Well, when a post is genuinely like that, I don't really know how else to put it! As for you, I already walked you through your own record, and I probably shouldn't get into anyone else's business since those rules only apply to them. I know it might feel a bit unfair, but different violations carry different point values, which is why the warnings and penalties vary. Besides, we’re actually drifting away from the main topic here, so we've gone a little off-topic.

rustydrifter10 said:Well, if he’s acting like that, I can't really argue with you. I already explained your own standing to you, and I really shouldn't be commenting on anyone else since those issues only concern them. It might feel unfair to you, but different infractions carry different point weights, which is why the warnings vary... and besides, this isn't even the topic at hand, so we're essentially going off-topic.

You could—and frankly, you really ought to—frame that differently. What exactly is the metric for "usefulness" versus "uselessness" on an internet forum? Isn't this supposed to be a space where people just come to say things? If we start filtering for "utility," this ceases to be a community and turns into some sort of virtual Ivy League institution where you'd have to submit credentials just to register... and even then, it would be incredibly rude to tell someone that their contribution is worthless.

So, the issue with my warning wasn't actually about whether the system was fair, but rather how insulting the explanation felt...

And besides, this isn't even the topic at hand, so we're essentially going off-topic.

We aren't actually off-topic, because the heart of this discussion is precisely why threads get locked when users try to ask questions or express grievances. Since we aren't allowed to discuss moderation or administration within the specific subject threads themselves, that's exactly what this space is for...

Melissa Walker86 said:Well, you could—and honestly, you probably should—phrase that a bit differently.

Look, if someone isn't contributing anything helpful to the discussion and is just being provocative or, at the very least, making things uncomfortable, there really isn't much else to say to them.

Melissa Walker86 said:Actually, we are staying right on topic here, because it feels like the whole point of this thread is discussing why certain discussions get shut down when people ask questions or vent about issues.

It’s because once a complaint has been reviewed and the question has been answered, that's it. Usually, once we've wrapped something up, we close the thread.

So, why did you suddenly turn gray on Splenda and wipe all her threads?

Did she just pivot from being trendy to acting like someone who can't handle basic math?

If you had been paying close attention, you would have seen exactly how this all went down—how the original thread started, why it ended up getting nuked, and how everything transitioned into what we're seeing now. As for why she decided to pull that move or where she even stands with it right now, honestly, I haven't the slightest clue.

The truth is, you have to maintain options, because dismissing someone as "useless" shouldn't be the standard when engaging with a user. And as for what qualifies as "provocative"—I can wrap my head around insults or threats, but anything beyond that feels like an overreach. It feels like you’re forcing your own perspective on us under the guise of managing a public forum, which creates this illusion that everything we write here represents a consensus... especially once posts are deleted or threads are shut down. That simply isn't the reality, and by acting this way, you're essentially practicing censorship...

It's because the appeal was reviewed and the question was answered. Once a matter is settled, we typically close it out.

I can only speculate about how that works, given that you deleted the initial thread started by Splenda but left the two follow-ups active, making the whole thing look disjointed and nonsensical. Either clear the slate entirely, or stop trying to tilt the scales like this...

Well, you didn't write it, nor did you explain why this whole topic even matters.

That specific treatment—silencing someone and locking them out (one day they're an admin, the next they're being bullied by mods, and then we have these public reports being issued en masse)—it caught my eye. And frankly, it's appalling; it's a blatant display of the boot of power.

Just taking this straight from that one specific thread:

rustydrifter10 said:Look, when it comes to starting new threads, I’m all for it! Honestly, as long as they stay constructive, keep things polite, get straight to the point, and don't go breaking any of the house rules, they are more than welcome here. Regarding that female user you mentioned, she hasn't actually been posting anything like that at all.

rustydrifter10 said:The whole thing really just stems from that very first instance, which was honestly nothing more than a blatant, rude ambush—one of those situations where someone just jumps down your throat without giving us any actual ground to stand on or even a fair chance to have a proper discussion.
...
Honestly, you barely see any threads getting nuked around here, and if you look closely, there’s always a rock-solid reason behind it whenever it happens.

So, I guess I really did say it!

feralpilot0 said:That whole situation where they just shut down the treatment—I mean, we’re talking about someone who was literally acting as a moderator just yesterday, only to turn around today and start picking fights with the rest of the mod team and publicly leaking reports to everyone—that really jumped out at me. It’s honestly terrible to watch because it’s such a blatant, heavy-handed display of the boot of power.

Look, I’m not saying anyone should just go around throwing their weight around for the sake of it, but at some point, someone actually has to step up, make a call, and take action. Sometimes that means hitting the delete button, locking things down, or issuing a sanction when things get out of hand. It’s just part of the job. And honestly? For those people who are actually willing to engage in a two-way conversation and play fair, there’s plenty of communication happening. It's not like we're ignoring anyone; we're just keeping things orderly.

Honestly, when it comes to that whole "former moderator" thing, I think we can all just agree it’s completely irrelevant. It doesn't change a thing. If someone is being straight-up rude or breaking the community rules, that's on them personally. It isn't because they used to hold a position or because of whatever their past status was—it’s just who they are being right now. At the end of the day, behavior is about the individual, not their old titles.

rustydrifter10 said:Just looking at this thread:

So I did write it after all.

Since when has being rude been the issue?

As far as someone's "former status" goes—it’s completely irrelevant. If a person is acting out and breaking the rules, they're doing it because of who they are, regardless of what their previous role was.

It matters.
If we have to go on and on about why certain people aren't getting sanctioned—which explains why these "edge cases" are suddenly everywhere lately—it implies one thing: either some people have to jump through hoops just to get a warning, while others get a free pass simply by existing.

When the enforcement is this subjective, isn't it a bit strange that someone gets hit with an immediate ban—complete with those condescending "you're this, you're that" remarks—all over a topic that isn't even visible?
