Import taxes on computers from overseas

So, some buddies of mine are flying in from the States soon, and I’m thinking about having them grab a $650 computer for me while they're out there. I'm just trying to figure out the odds of getting slapped with import taxes... or if I even have to deal with that at all. If I just claim it's my own personal gear, does that cover it? Do they need to unbox the thing, or can it stay tucked away in a suitcase? To be more specific, it's a Mac mini, so you get the idea. If it's still in the original packaging, is it super obvious it's a new purchase, or does it matter if it's already been opened? I'd really rather not end up paying an extra 25% just because of bad luck. Any advice or tips would be huge. Thanks in advance 😁

One single item isn't worth anyone's time. They can go ahead and carry it around in their bag for all I care.
