Got a question for both the guys and the girls on here. I’m 5'9" and 165 lbs—pretty much a standard build, nothing crazy, everything's where it should be. Now... some people are out here saying 185 lbs would be the "ideal" weight for my height—basically telling me to bulk up. Others are straight up saying I need to drop some weight. What’s actually the sweet spot for a guy? How low or high should I actually aim to go?

There’s really no such thing as a perfect build... everyone is wired differently, I guess. Even if two guys are both 5'11" and weigh 175 lbs, they aren't going to look even remotely the same. It all just comes down to your own personal preference and what you're aiming for. I suppose the main thing is just trying to keep that body fat percentage as low as you can manage.

I'm more of an average build. At 155 lbs I look pretty skinny. Honestly? I think hitting 175 would be the sweet spot. I don't have massive muscle yet, but I'm definitely not scrawny either... you feel me?

I mean, I get it... you just gotta bulk up. Hit the gym, eat everything in sight, and just keep grinding... eventually, things start looking better. Like, if you're standing at 5'9"... you probably need to hit at least 175 lbs... assuming you don't just pack on too much fat in the process. You'd look pretty solid then, I guess. 🙂

The muscle's there—it's just spread out... I've got that build, but man, if I went over 185 lbs I'd look like a complete toddler... 🙂

So, okay. It’s kind of something like this... you aren't training, right? If I'm remembering correctly? But honestly, the weight on the scale doesn't mean much. Forget the numbers. What actually matters is how you look and whether you're happy with what you see in the mirror. You know? I guess you should never really be obsessing over hitting some specific number on a scale...

Patrick Johnson78 said:yeah fine. so it's basically like this--no training involved.. if I got that right? but honestly. weight doesn't mean squat.. screw the numbers. what matters is how you look.. if you're happy with yourself. right? you should never just aim for some specific number on the scale...

I get it.. people tell me I look okay.. but like, I'd look better if I put on another 20 pounds.. I'm just worried about looking soft though...

hahaha ................................ look, I’m sitting at about 185 lbs right now and honestly? I want more. I don't look fat or anything like that... plus I'm actually a couple inches taller than you... I mean, you can definitely pull off 220 lbs and still look fit if you aren't carrying it all in your gut

I don't buy it, man 🙂..once your face starts getting puffy, you know you hit the limit 🙂

So, basically, you're just generally overweight. If your body fat percentage is high... I mean, you could weigh 220 pounds, but if it's all muscle and your BF% is actually low, then you aren't really fat. ))

Patrick Johnson78 said:basically you're just fat—high body fat %... you could be 220 lbs of pure muscle... low BF, then you aren't fat ))

Turn body fat into pure muscle? Please. 🙂)). If I had 220 lbs of muscle at my height, I’d look like a total blob.

Nah. You can't just turn fat into muscle... and I guess you can't be that massive and shredded while staying natural. Just saying. Look at the photos... 5'11"... 220 lbs... they aren't out of shape :P

I get what you're saying 🙂. I just want to look fit, you know? I've already got the definition down—if I could just bulk up a bit while training, that'd be killer... just wondering how much 🙂

Well, I guess it all really comes down to what you're eating...
