I’m really curious—what exactly is the criteria for having Grace Diaz76 acting as a moderator over on the Diaspora sub-forum?
First off, she’s nowhere to be found right now, but back on March 28th, there was this user, FBI, who was basically running an illegal scam on the Iceland thread—misleading people about how they could actually secure asylum in Iceland. People like FBI should be banned immediately before some poor soul actually flies off to Iceland looking for asylum based on bad advice.🙂

Secondly—and this is the frustrating part—this moderator on the Diaspora board seems to be running a total dictatorship; whenever someone asks for help, she just wipes their posts for whatever "Reason" only she knows about.
Dear Jamie Barrett7,

You have received a warning at Reddit.

Reason:
-------
Insulting a user

Thanks a million, you're just wonderful, really. What kind of stupid unicorn comment was that?! Did you even bother reading what I wrote?! I only mentioned the prize so people might actually spare twenty minutes to take the survey.

My sister is conducting scientific research out in Australia—it’s a huge deal for her project—but she doesn't know anyone back home, and thank God we have a decent community of Americans living in Australia here... and yet you won't even LET me ask good people to help her by filling out the survey?!

QUOTE Jamie Barrett7
Just let *********go, send a private message to our folks living in Australia and call it a day.

Warnings serve as a reminder to you of the forum's rules, which you are expected to understand and follow.

All The Best,
Reddit

I ended up getting a warning for "insulting a user." Honestly, since the moderator clearly has some issues with comprehension, I don't see how anyone was insulted—especially considering she deleted indigo Girl's post just because she was trying to get help for her sister living in Australia.

Thirdly—why is it that every other sub-forum has three or four moderators, but on the Diaspora board, it's just Grace Diaz76 calling all the shots?

Fourthly—is there any way we can hold a vote to remove this moderator? There are way too many users complaining about her moderation style.

Does anyone actually plan on stepping up to answer those questions posted above??

You got flagged because you tried to hide an insult behind those little asterisks.

As for any claims about illegal deception—look, if I missed something, I’m sorry. If you can point me toward the specific post, I'll take action right away.
Honestly, I don't even know who you are, and I definitely don't have some weird vendetta against you. I'm just trying to keep these discussions on track.

And sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I was traveling home and couldn't get a decent internet connection.

Are you seriously telling me there’s nothing illegal about this post?
I mean—mentioning off-the-books work while simultaneously looking for asylum?? WTF
In all those other threads about Canada, you were so quick to scrub anything that even breathed the word "asylum," but now suddenly there are no sanctions for stuff like this?

Look, you’re definitely steering the conversation in the right direction—there’s no denying that—it’s just that my eyes aren't exactly dazzled seeing how you moderate the PDF diaspora.

You deleted indigo Girl's post simply because she was trying, in a perfectly normal and human way, to seek help from people living in Australia—so then you start bringing up some nonsense about unicorns?? Is that really how a moderator justifies deleting a post? What was the actual reason for the deletion if it didn't contain anything illegal—like, for instance, all that talk about asylum in the Iceland thread over the last week?

I’m not accepting the apology, honestly. If you don't have the time, or if you're constantly traveling, then maybe just step away from moderating and let someone else handle it—someone who actually has the time to maintain order and peace.

If you want to be totally fair about this, why not just put up a poll? Let's see how many people are actually satisfied with your moderation style, because I know for a fact I’m not the first one to complain.

And please, can you clarify what you meant by my "offensive" word? What are those little asterisks actually supposed to represent? Are you some kind of psychic, Milan, who can predict the hidden meaning behind a few stars? How can it even be considered an offensive word if you don't even know what it stands for?

Thanks for flagging this post. I'll take a look right away and, if it's necessary, I'll issue a sanction.

As for the rest of it, the girl doesn't need a lawyer—so, honestly, this isn't really about your specific post or any kind of penalty for it. I already laid out my reasoning for you earlier, but look, if the admin agrees that the strike was unfair, then I'm more than happy to just wipe it away.

Look, it’s not even about me wanting to be some high-priced attorney or anything—I just want to point out that you're deleting posts that don't need to go, while leaving up the ones that actually should be scrubbed. It feels like there's a real struggle here with judging what's "good" versus what's "bad."

Honestly? If I were calling the shots, I'd tell the admin to move you aside—but hey, leave the warnings and the bans in place for everyone else.

The FBI's posts have been sanctioned, and they've been given a formal warning. Thanks for the link, by the way—I’ll definitely be keeping a closer eye on this thread from now on.

Regarding that poll, I think the moderator did the right thing by taking it down. If anyone's looking to run a poll, the best move is just to reach out to the mod team first; they'll take a look and decide if it fits the guidelines or not.

And honestly, your post getting flagged was totally fair since it was pretty provocative and disrespectful.
