The Pirate Bay Away from Keyboard (2013)

The movie follows the three founders of The Pirate Bay, blending documentary footage with dramatic reenactments.

It covers their legal battles, the extortion they faced, and the compromises they were forced into. Hollywood and big corporate interests painted them as villains, even though their only goal was an open internet and free file sharing. They just wanted everyone to have access to everything, totally free of charge.

I actually know the director through mutual friends, and I’m personally acquainted with the founders of The Pirate Bay (Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, and Gottfrid Svartholm). I felt the need to start a thread here because a project like this deserves the recognition.

It’s an okay film.

To me, it feels somewhat like a collection of raw footage pulled from various archives, merely stitched together with some subtitles thrown in between.
Perhaps it could have benefited from a more polished approach.

I didn't walk away with any groundbreaking insights, though I wasn't exactly expecting to find any new information.

Pretty impressive stuff. Especially that part where Gottfrid just rattles off about 30 digits of pi from memory? The guy's a straight-up genius.

Just your typical nerd. I actually have my Windows password, my router login, my Gmail credentials... all memorized. If I typed them out one after another, it’d be about thirty characters total—just a mix of numbers and letters, upper and lowercase. Am I some kind of genius? You wish. Seriously though, just a total geek. 😁

You could probably write him a letter in code and he'd still pick up what you're putting down.
He managed to build tracker software in just four days.
The guy is widely considered a total computer genius.

If only I had a brain like his. 😁

He also supposedly lent a hand to WikiLeaks on a few occasions. Honestly? In my book, that makes him alright.
