Hey everyone, I think it’s finally time to retire my old laptop and find its worthy successor!
0. Preferred retailers
Honestly, I don't have a preference.
1. Desired screen size:
15.6", though I wouldn't mind something a bit more compact.
2. Resolution
Full HD
3. Glossy or matte screen?
Doesn't matter to me.
4. Primary use case
Standard office work, programming, and some light gaming on the side.
5. Do you need Windows pre-installed?
No.
6. Any preferred brands or ones you'd like to avoid?
None at all.
7. Budget range
Around $1,000 $0.00, though I'm happy to spend less if the machine hits all my specs.
8. How important is the warranty?
The longer, the better, obviously.
9. Additional details
- An Intel processor, ideally an i5 or i7, but please avoid the low-power 'U' series.
- An IPS panel.
- At least 8 GB of RAM.
- A minimum 128 GB SSD, though I'd much prefer 256 GB.
- At least a 500 GB hard drive.
- Graphics is the biggest question mark for me; I'm looking for something decent, maybe something in the realm of a dedicated 940 series or better.
- An optical drive is completely unnecessary.
- Battery life isn't my top priority.
- I would love a chassis with a metal build.
- I'd really like to avoid that "gamer" aesthetic—you know, the flashy colors, aggressive patterns, or those bright red WASD keys.
That’s pretty much the gist of it. One thing to note: I'm in no massive rush, so I can afford to wait if there's a better deal coming up soon, like a seasonal sale or a price drop triggered by a new generation of CPUs or GPUs hitting the market.
My current machine is an old HP EliteBook 8530w; it served me well, but unfortunately, it's starting to show its age.🙂
