For a few weeks now, my left breast has been itching. It’s not constant, but it happens periodically—sometimes even seems tied to my cycle. It’s just one spot near the armpit area. Some days that same spot aches a little, but I just figured it was PMS. However, last night it went from an unbearable itch to actual pain.
During my pregnancy, I noticed some tiny spots appearing, almost like small bruises, and a couple of days ago I spotted a little mark that looks somewhat like lichen or I honestly don't know how else to describe it...
I scheduled a routine checkup with my OB-GYN for today, and I plan to bring this up then. But since the appointment isn't until January 10th and I am a known hypochondriac, I'm starting to spiral. I thought I'd ask if any of you have dealt with something similar or have any idea what this could be. I tried Googling it and the results were enough to send me into a full-blown panic. With the holidays coming up, I knew I'd lose my mind if I didn't reach out to someone to help calm my nerves...

Honestly, I don't think it's anything serious; it sounds more like a mix of dehydration and pre-period bloating. Stop stressing out and quit Googling everything!

Hi there.

I've been dealing with this persistent breast soreness for a few weeks now, and honestly, it’s reaching a point where it’s becoming unbearable. I've done some reading, and my mind immediately jumps to the worst-case scenarios—either pregnancy (which isn't the case here) or something much more serious like cancer—and frankly, I'm pretty rattled by the thought. Is it possible that since I've put on a few pounds over the last couple of months, the extra tissue is just making things more sensitive?

Does anyone have any insight into what might be causing this?

I’ve read that this happens during pregnancy—which isn't the case for me—or if it's something like cancer, and I am freaking out a little. Could it just be because I’ve gained a few pounds over the last couple of months and they're just stretching?

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Could be anything, could be nothing.
When was the last time you had a breast ultrasound?

It might be a good idea to schedule an appointment with a dermatologist.
Skin itching on the breast is generally quite similar to how skin itches anywhere else on the body.

While itching can indeed be a symptom associated with Page's disease, it typically doesn't affect the entire breast—rather, it focuses on the nipple and the areola, which are often inflamed or accompanied by discharge and similar issues.
That said, getting a definitive diagnosis really falls within the expertise of a dermatologist.

I doubt it's actually anything significant. It'll probably just slide right through 🙂

It could also be the case if we’re looking at a fibroadenoma
