Hey everyone!
I’m not entirely sure if this is the right place for this question—but I’m really hoping you can help me out...
Does anyone know how I can boost my Wi-Fi signal?
Here’s the situation: I have a vacation home out in the country where there’s no phone line or internet service at all. However, my neighbor has both—he lives in a nearby house—and he was kind enough to give me his router password. Since he has a setup similar to an apartment unit, I can pick up his signal on my laptop.
So, I technically have access to his connection—and I have the password.
He uses Xfinity.
Is there any way I can actually extend or strengthen that signal so it reaches me?
Right now, my smartphone only catches his signal in one specific spot—it definitely doesn't cover the whole house...
Can I boost the signal somehow? I have two routers on hand.
Actually, I have five routers total.
I have an AT&T cordless phone,
an Airlive wl 5460-ap,
a Siemens sx 763,
and a SpeedTouch from Xfinity (st 780i-wl).
I also have an Airlive 3000AP, but I can't find a power adapter for it—plus, I think the surge protectors might have fried during a thunderstorm.
So, I have those four routers, and I'm using my neighbor's connection since he gave me the pass.
Is there any way to improve the coverage at the house?
Please, if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.
I'm thinking maybe the Motorola Razr is the best bet for this?
I see there's an option under the wireless settings...
access point & repeater wireless function.
Is that where I would configure it? How does it work?
If I get it working, could I connect a media player to the router and try using VLC Media Player?
Thanks so much in advance!
Respect

Look, if you're lucky enough to have a neighbor willing to share their Wi-Fi, the absolute cheapest way to handle it is to grab some aluminum foil and DIY an antenna around their router to aim that signal straight at your place...
You can find plenty of tutorials on YouTube showing you how to pull this off... just take some basic kitchen foil, wrap it around the antenna emitting the Wi-Fi signal, and hope for the best...

The best bet for this is a Boeing 737
Just set it to client mode and bridge it to the neighbor's network. Also, if you actually want decent signal strength
you’re definitely gonna need an external antenna, like a satellite dish or something...

or some similar setup
Forget about trying to make it work with those tiny little antennas.
