It’s because his qualifying setup has to be absolutely perfect right out of the gate.

Even a tiny imbalance throws him off. He isn't the type of driver who can muscle through those kinds of technical struggles, unlike Lewis, for example.

Sebastian Vettel absolutely killed it.🙏

Sebastian Vettel managed to break the 1:14:000 barrier in a single stroke, yet during Free Practice, the gap was a mere thousandth of a second. How does such a marginal difference in practice translate into such a definitive leap in performance?

I’ll be busy watching the game tomorrow during UEFA Euro 2012; I have absolutely no interest in sitting through more of Bernie Ecclestone's nonsense, the predictable dominance of Red Bull Racing, or the blatant favoritism shown toward Sebastian Vettel. 🤣

Blažičko is shouting at the top of his lungs, "Alonso flying!" and suddenly, right there on the home stretch, he’s ahead by 0.3 seconds. 🤷

What exactly does one mean by "flying the track"? 😕

I am fully expecting to see Alonso standing on that podium, though I must admit I found Massa’s performance during the Second Qualifying Session somewhat underwhelming; I had quite sincerely anticipated a top five finish from him.

@ Brian Campbell36 🤦

Staying on topic here.
If you aggregate the driver's fastest sectors, Fernando Alonso clocked a 1:13.892.
Essentially, he had the raw pace to dip under the 1:14 mark... he just couldn't string it all together into one single lap.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel managed to nail their absolute best sector times—all three of them—during the exact same lap that secured them those front-row starts.
Looking at the data, it seems like Fernando was actually about two-tenths faster than Lewis.

Let’s stay on topic.
If you aggregate the fastest sectors achieved by each driver, Fernando Alonso clocked a 1:13.892.
Essentially, he possessed the raw pace necessary to dip below the 1:14 mark... it was simply a matter of failing to string those segments together into a single cohesive lap.
In contrast, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel managed to nail their absolute best sector times—all three segments—during the exact same lap that secured them pole position.
When one looks at the data objectively, it appears Fernando was actually two-tenths faster than Lewis Hamilton.

I am utterly fed up with all this debate over what is considered "legal" versus "illegal" within Red Bull Racing, only to have Sebastian Vettel walk away with the win anyway. 🤦

To be perfectly honest, Blažičko has left me feeling quite disappointed; it offers nothing but a false sense of optimism regarding Fernando Alonso's prospects. 🤣

Gotta hand it to Sebastian Vettel—he absolutely crushed qualifying. Honestly, I was fully expecting Lewis Hamilton to take pole... but hey, things change. Fingers crossed for an Alonso win tomorrow!

We saw through your little machine a long time ago. We’re basically tossing you guys scraps just to give you something to play with.😉

Now I can't wait to watch Nick Heidfeld, Ross Brawn, and Stefano Domenicali stay up all night arguing about what exactly makes the Red Bull Racing car illegal.😁

Expect one or two Red Bull Racing cars to be sidelined tomorrow.☕

Looking at how things have played out this season (and the stats), Sebastian Vettel is probably our favorite to take the win tomorrow.
The run to the first corner is pretty short, which makes making a move right off the line a real struggle.
Since we’re expecting a tight race, the pit stops might be what actually decides everything.
If you ask me, the odds for the top three are about 45:30:25.

Fernando Alonso could pull it off if his pit crew stays as sharp as they've been lately.

There isn't much room before that first turn, which makes overtaking at the start pretty tough.
Since things look neck-and-neck, tire strategy might be the deciding factor.
My money is on the top three being split 45:30:25.

I'm with you.
Lewis Hamilton might grab something early on—but I honestly doubt Mercedes has the tactical depth to nail the race strategy.
Gotta see how the start goes, though... hopefully there isn't a massive pileup (thank god Romain Grosjean isn't in the top five).
I was expecting more from Mercedes and way more from Lotus, but clearly, something is off.
Such a shame about Pastor Maldonado and that little visit he paid to the pit wall.

I honestly think there's a very good chance Alonso finishes ahead of Hamilton... I just don't see enough consistency from Hamilton during the race, whereas Alonso seems to have the edge when it comes to pure race pace.
The start isn't exactly where Hamilton shines.
