I’m throwing it out there: we should move the Food & Nutrition subforum out of Gastronomy and tuck it under Health instead. I mean, nutrition science is literally a branch of medicine, right? It just makes more sense.
Hopefully you guys will listen to a young nutritionist's plea here. 🙂

Actually, nutrition science isn't considered a formal branch of medicine, so I'm afraid your reasoning doesn't quite hold up under scrutiny.

Maybe you've got a point there, but do you even know if there’s some official, definitive list out there defining every single medical specialty?

but still... does the science of food belong in gastronomy?

It certainly exists. It all comes down to how the various specializations are structured and, ultimately, the specific curriculum taught at medical school. For instance, nutrition science is actually part of the coursework at PBF.
As for why they decided to include that particular subject there, I haven't the slightest clue. It clearly aligns with the preferences of the moderators, so I suppose it shall remain as it is. 🤷

Why they decided to stick it there, who knows. Clearly the mods are cool with it, so whatever. 🤷

I'm asking because it's listed on Wikipedia, but I didn't bring it up before because... well, Wikipedia. 😁

Isn't that kind of an insult to science? Is there any way to get it changed? I doubt it’s such a massive ordeal, right?

After some serious back-and-forth consulting between the foodies and the health nuts, we’ve finally reached a verdict: we’re sticking strictly to gastronomy.

mind if I ask why though...?

We have reached a consensus that the PDF will remain exactly where it currently sits, functioning as a sub-forum within the Food & Dining section.
The purpose of the Food & Health section is not to serve as a clinical platform where experts dispense rigorous scientific advice on how to maintain one's health; rather, it exists as a space for people to discuss their personal experiences, the various supplements they incorporate into specific dietary regimens, and the tangible results of those lifestyles.
Why anchor it to Food & Dining? It is quite simple: our community’s primary focus revolves around food, which is precisely why Food & Health exists here.
The moderator of the Health section has expressed her full agreement with this decision.

In truth, this isn't some sudden policy shift; this arrangement was established years ago when we first expanded the Food & Dining section—it is highly unlikely that such a concept would have ever gained traction within the Health section, at least certainly not on this scale.

Since our doors are always open to every well-intentioned member of this community, I sincerely wish you a pleasant stay here on our forum. 🙂

Aaron Harris2 said:Look, we already decided the PDF stays right where it is—tucked under the Food subforum.
The "Food & Wellness" section isn't some medical journal meant to drop heavy scientific advice on people to help them stay fit. It’s just a place for folks to swap stories about what they’re eating, supplements they use for specific diets, and how those diets actually worked out for them.
Why link it to Food? Because here in the States, everything revolves around food—so obviously, the wellness stuff goes there.
The Health mod is totally on board with this too.

Honestly, this isn't even a new rule. This was settled years ago when we first expanded the Food section. To be fair, if we tried running it over in the Health section, it probably wouldn't have gained any traction anyway (at least not on this scale).

Since we welcome all our well-meaning users here, I hope you enjoy hanging out on our forums. 🙂

Thanks for clearing that up. 🙂

Aaron Harris2 said:Basically, this isn't some sudden pivot. This was already baked into the plan when we expanded the Food & Dining subforum a few years back. It likely would have never gained traction over in the Health section anyway—not at least not on this scale.

To add to that, I was chatting with some of the other moderators, and we all agreed that if we kept the Food & Health subforum in its current state, it wouldn't be sustainable. We'd eventually have to split the topics up regardless.

I think this is actually the cleanest way to handle it, since that specific subforum covers more than just health—it gets into deep dives on individual ingredients too.
