A film based on the novel F. Scott Fitzgerald:

Jay Gatsby navigates the streets of New York City at the tail end of the 19th century, drifting from cockroach-infested tenements straight into the most opulent ballrooms... Using nothing but his wit, his charm, and a lethal sense of seduction, he claws his way out of poverty and into pure luxury—trading the company of streetwalkers for heated encounters with the social elite. It’s a world where politics and the press are constantly clawing for influence, where sex is the ultimate currency of power, and where being a household name is an absolute obsession.

Directed by Declan Donnellan, Nick Ormerod
Starring: Robert Pattinson, Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Natalia Tena, Colm Meaney, Philip Glenister, Holliday Grainger, James Lannac, Pip Torrens, Ryan Ellsworth, Todd Peterson, Jerome Ceriti, Jak Harders, Arthur Gourounlian

I don't know, I've never been one for all that drama and nonsense... but from what I can gather, we're talking about a total chauvinist here, right? And is he that guy who was in that cheesy movie about those wannabe vampires?

😁 Yeah, that's the one.

I actually dig period dramas, so I'm totally down to sit through whatever Robert Pattinson is doing... plus, I've always been a fan of Christina Ricci.

Didn't get around to reading the book, unfortunately...😢

Maybe I'll check it out. I haven't decided yet, but if I'm bored, it’s definitely on the list. 😁

I used to hate anything leaning too hard into drama until I saw Melancholy. Sure, that one is sci-fi, but let's be real—it's basically a drama for most of the runtime.

It looks like that Warner Bros. adaptation will have plenty of sex and tension, which is why it caught my eye. 😁

🤣

I can't believe they're actually going to show anything... seriously...

Honestly, Americans really ought to give this film a chance... 😁

There’s definitely going to be some action 😛

I mean, obviously it won't look like a scene out of a movie, but there's gotta be some heat. It's about a guy who spends his time chasing after models, socialites, and high-society women 😁

Mm, Robert Pattinson in a sex scene? I am absolutely, 100% watching that. 😬

The premiere is happening at the Sundance Film Festival, and I can't help but wonder just how much the critics are going to absolutely tear this thing apart. Though, if I'm being honest, the trailer actually looks surprisingly decent.

Finally finished the book last night.

I’m really hoping the movie stays true to the source material... I need that scene where Robert Pattinson (spoiler) beats up (end spoiler) Christina Ricci

Seems solid, I’ll probably check out 😁

Plus, Robert Pattinson is actually pretty decent when he isn't playing some glowing vampire (think Water for Elephants or Remember Me), so I bet he'll kill it here too 😁

The critics basically tore both the movie and the cast to shreds, though I suppose there were a few tiny exceptions here and there. 🤷

Are they really that pathetic? 🙂

I just finished reading the book. Honestly? It was a total snooze fest.

I don't really see myself sitting through the movie either. Especially if
Glitter is in the cast.

So, I watched the movie. Okay, that’s a lie—I actually drifted off during the last twenty minutes because it was just that incredibly tedious.
I suppose Robert Pattinson did a decent enough job, and the rest of the actresses were fine too (though, if I'm being honest, Scott Thomas was a bit much; she was way too dramatic for my taste), but man, the script? It was just so shallow and utterly dull that it was almost tragic. Honestly, it was just bad. Bad.

The book was alright, I guess. The movie? Not so much...

Honestly, I only sat through it because of Robert Pattinson. 😛

Bad movie. There was definitely potential here, but the writing is sloppy and the acting is even worse. To be blunt, Robert Pattinson just isn't built for a role like this. While Uma and Ricci are absolutely phenomenal, he spends the whole time just pulling that Edward Cullen face—you know the one—and nothing can fix it. At least the costumes looked nice 😍

I’m honestly so curious to see how this movie actually turns out... since I haven't even cracked open the book yet, that first impression is everything to me ☕

Watched a movie yesterday and I’m honestly just disappointed... I spent the whole time waiting for some kind of plot development or a massive twist at the end to save it.
Nothing. A complete disaster. Just bad.🤷
