I'm running into an issue. I need to install some new Windows software, but my Background process isn't working anymore, even after trying to reinstall it a few times. Does anyone know of a program similar to IBM that can mount ISO files? I just need it to get this Windows 7 installation started. Thanks.

You can't just run a Windows installation through a Background process like you're using an emulator.

You actually need the physical Windows installation disc... pop it into the drive and then boot up your machine.

alcohol 120 ... I honestly don't even get how you're trying to run a Windows installation like that 😁 it's not even a game 😂

It doesn't work quite like that. I suspect he isn't explaining himself fully before getting banned, or perhaps he simply doesn't know what he's talking about. He likely downloaded a Windows ISO from a torrent site or somewhere similar, and now he needs something like a Daemon tool to unpack it. To actually burn a bootable DVD once he uses DT, he'll need a specific utility. Alternatively, he could just unpack it with DT and run the installation directly from his hard drive.

That is a tool used to create bootable DVDs or USB drives, functioning similarly to DT.
There are several options available: ISO Buster, Magic Disc, DVDFab, Clone DVD, and I can't recall them all, but there are plenty more. You can search online; they are generally categorized as virtual drive software.

I'm not sure who told you that wasn't possible or how you figured that out.

I downloaded Windows 7 as an ISO from a torrent a long time ago, and I've installed Windows maybe four or five times on that machine by running it through DT while the PC was already on.😲

I don't really get why this is such a big deal to everyone.

Same deal for me. I took my last Windows installation and did it the exact same way—just dragged the files from the disc onto the computer and ran the install from the hard drive.

I mean, you can do it that way, kind of like when you're installing a game... though I think Windows usually goes through the existing setup? I'm not entirely sure...

Look, just burn a bootable disc and format the computer properly... if you're looking for virtual drives like Daemon, Alcohol 120 has them, plus there's a ton of other software out there like that...😁

It is certainly doable, of course, because Daemon tools will mimic a physical drive—essentially tricking the system into thinking there's an actual DVD in the burner—allowing you to mount it under Windows. However, I would suggest just making a bootable DVD using that program I linked for you. It doesn't even have to be that specific one; just copy the Windows ISO file to something and burn it using a bootable DVD utility. If your hard drive happens to die, you won't be able to rely on Daemon tools anymore.

I actually have a Windows disc myself, but my DVD drive just died on me. It’s only a few months old, so I’m heading in this Monday to get it replaced under warranty, but I needed Windows right away, so I went with that workaround instead.
Anyway, the issue is sorted now. I downloaded and installed PowerISO to fix the Windows setup, and the computer is running smoothly now, like it's brand new.

What the hell are you guys even talking about here? 😁

A real Windows installation happens via a bootable disc. How on earth are you planning to pull off a clean install using Daemon tools?

And look, if you actually think I know less about computers than you do, why don't you come over and show me what you've got... maybe I can teach you a thing or two... 😈

It sounds like you’re hunting for something that does exactly what Daemon Tools used to do...
Give PowerISO a shot. It should handle those Windows installs without any of the usual headaches.

Daemon Tools, it's free, lightweight, and actually works pretty well.
