Glengarry Glen Ross

..man, this movie is criminally underrated just because people rarely bring it up, but if you ask me, it’s an absolute classic waiting to happen.. the acting is top-tier, seriously, and that opening speech by Alec Baldwin is easily the highlight, followed by Al Pacino carrying the rest of the film.. I kept waiting for them to actually share a scene together, but unfortunately, they never even appear in the same frame.. the whole thing is just packed with killer dialogue that drives the entire plot forward, so honestly, if you haven't seen it yet, you're missing out..

..that legendary opening with Alec Baldwin..

..Al Pacino's monologue..

The script and acting? Spot on. The dialogue—and those monologues, man—just hits different. And the acting isn't even really "acting." It feels like those actors actually *are* those characters.

Absolute cinematic legend 👍

It’s definitely not for everyone—it feels more like watching a stage play at some Broadway theater—but still 👍it’s a masterpiece.

I’d love to catch this one again. Honestly, when I first saw it in the theater, I was absolutely losing my mind over it.

I guess I was just too young back then to fully grasp it all.😁

Indeed. A masterful film, truly. And the performances? Simply sublime. I must confess, I have never particularly connected with any performance by Alec Baldwin before this, but he is nothing short of extraordinary here. That said, for me, the standout remains Jack Lemmon; there was something profoundly moving about him in one of his later roles.

There are just so many cinematic classics that, for some reason I can't quite put my finger on, I’ve managed to consistently dodge over the years! I was thinking about it today while grabbing a coffee, and I really feel like it's finally time for me to sit down and give this one a proper watch.

This is one of those movies I end up rewatching at least three times a year.☕

Every single scene is a damn masterpiece.☕

Precisely. A masterclass in performance by Jack Lemmon. Al Pacino holds his own as well.

There isn't a bad performance in the bunch. Everyone is brilliant.

Why is this film so overlooked?

If my memory serves me right, wasn't it one of the bigger surprises at the Oscars that year? I can't be bothered to dig through the archives, but I recall it managed to snag a few nominations.

Regardless, it’s a masterful piece of cinema, driven by a brilliant script from Mamet.

And now it comes back to me—Al Pacino took home the Oscar that year for that intense performance in Scent of a Woman, while GGR was left with nothing but a nomination.

Just finished watching it. Phenomenal. Every actor who got screen time delivered a flawless performance, but for me, it's all about Al Pacino and that final sequence. Truly great stuff. 8/10.

My God, what a masterpiece. 🙏

Al Pacino and Jack Lemmon are absolute legends. 🙏

And the rest of the cast? Not even close to being second best—Alec Baldwin, Arikin, and dear Kevin are all incredible. Seriously top-tier lineup, brilliant dialogue, pure entertainment.

A truly stellar film... I actually found myself revisiting it just three weeks ago—it really holds up. The performances feel incredibly organic, which is half the battle, and there’s a certain stripped-back simplicity to the whole thing that serves as its greatest strength. That’s where the real impact lies.

The movie basically follows the play almost beat for beat. The only real deviation is Baldwin’s monologue, which was clearly an afterthought—honestly, that’s the only reason to sit through it.
Aside from that one highlight, though, the film is just mediocre. It doesn't blow me away, but it isn't a total disaster either. It’s just... fine. 🤷
