Yo, Robert Rodriguez2, I could really use a hand here—mind giving me your take on whether I put this thing together right? I’m looking to spend somewhere around $5,500-$5,700 total.
Mostly just for streaming movies, browsing the web, and maybe some light gaming here and there... plus, since I dabble in photography as a hobby, I need something that can actually handle running Adobe Lightroom and other photo editing software, so a decent IPS monitor is a must too.

1 x AOC I2476VWM 23.6" IPS Monitor, 5ms, Full HD, VGA/HDMI
1 x Intel Core i5-6500 (3.2GHz, 6MB, LGA1151)
1 x Kingmax 8GB DDR4 2133MHz
1 x ASUS Main board desktop B150 (mATX Retail)
1 x XFX NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 GDDR5 2GB/128bit, 1220MHz/7000MHz, PCI-E 3.0 x16, HDMI, DVI-D, DP, DD 2X cooler (Double Slot), Retail
1 x Kingston UV400 120GB SSD, 2.5” 7mm, SATA 6 Gbit/s
1 x Seagate BarraCuda 1TB HDD, 64MB, 7200rpm, High-Performance
1 x Fortron Hexa+ 400W, 80+
1 x MS Black Smith I Case, black, 1x120mm

Total: Around $1833
Free assembly and shipping included

If you know of anything better out there, please, don't hold back—hit me with some suggestions! Thanks.

Mainly for movies, browsing, maybe some gaming... and since I do amateur photography, I need it for Adobe Lightroom and photo editing, plus an IPS monitor

1 x AOC I2476VWM 23.6", IPS, 5ms, Full HD, VGA/HDMI
1 x Intel Core i5-6500 (3.2GHz, 6MB, LGA1151) box
1 x Kingmax 8GB DDR4 2133MHz
1 x MSI H110M PRO-D (S1151, DDR4, USB3.1, SATA III, DVI, Audio, LAN) mATX Retail
1 x XFX Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 GDDR5 2GB/128bit, 1220MHz/7000MHz, PCI-E 3.0 x16, HDMI, DVI-D, DP, DD 2X cooler (Double Slot), Retail
1 x Kingston UV400 120GB SSD, 2.5” 7mm, SATA 6 Gbit/s
1 x Seagate BarraCuda 1TB, 64MB, 7200rpm, High-Performance
1 x Fortron Hexa+ 400W, 80+
1 x Smith Black Case I, black, 1x120mm

Total: Approx. $1833
Free assembly and delivery

If you have anything better, feel free to suggest it. Thanks

How did you manage to build that for $5,500?
If you ask me, I'd go for a GPU with 4GB of VRAM, just for games. Everything is more demanding now, at least so you don't run into issues😁 the rest seems fine to me😁

1 x Intel Core i5-6400 (2.7GHz, 6MB, LGA1151) box
1 x Kingmax 8GB DDR4 2133MHz
1 x Seagate BarraCuda 1TB, 64MB, 7200rpm, High-Performance
1 x MSI RX 460 4G OC, 4GB GDDR5, DX12
1 x AOC I2476VWM 23.6", IPS, 5ms, Full HD, VGA/HDMI
1 x Kingston UV400 120GB SSD, 2.5” 7mm, SATA 6 Gbit/s
1 x Smith Black Case I, black, 1x120mm
1 x Power Supply 500W, ANTEC VP500PC ES, ATX v2.3, 120mm fan
1 x ASUS Main board desktop B150 (S1151, DualDDR4, PCI-Ex16, 2xPCI-Ex1 USB3.1, USB2.0, SATA III, VGA, DVI, GLAN) mATX Retail

Total: $1927

future build
I'd do it like this: slightly weaker CPU—nothing to worry about—but a GPU with 4GB of RAM (just for games since they're all heavier now, it's good for 1080p) and a slightly better motherboard😁

Moving this over because things were getting a bit crowded in the other thread regarding $1867.

I'm assuming this is for your future build? Maybe just go with an Intel Core i5-6400 and pair it with a Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti for $450. It might cost a little more, but I guess it's worth it.

So, before I pull the trigger on this order, I just have a couple of things I need to clear up regarding my choices

1. Case: Should I go with the Cooler Master Z1, USB3.0 black($93), featuring 2x120mm fans, or stick with the MS Black Smith I, black, with just 1x120mm ($60)?

Hmm, I mean, I guess this setup is a pretty decent choice, right?

Ms black Smith offers a stunning chassis at a really solid price point, though it does lack any internal fans.
Zalman actually includes them.

Hey everyone, I'm looking to put together a PC with a budget somewhere around $5,500–$5,700.
I’ve been going back and forth between a laptop and a desktop—ultimately, the screen size won the argument for me. While I realize a laptop offers that sweet portability for moving from place to place, I decided a desktop is the way to go simply because I want a proper monitor, plus the upgrade path feels much less painful than trying to swap parts in a cramped laptop chassis. My daily driver will handle general browsing, movies, and gaming, but I also need it to run Adobe software (Photoshop, Lightroom, Photomatix, etc.), so my main priority is picking up a monitor with an IPS panel.
The plan is to buy everything and assemble it myself for my future build. I’ve already sketched out a rough list in my head, so please feel free to correct me or suggest better alternatives if you think I'm missing the mark. Or, if this looks solid, just let me know.

Here is what I have so far:
AOC I2476VWM 23.6", IPS, 5ms, Full HD, VGA/HDMI$363
Intel Core i5-6400 (2.7GHz, 6MB, LGA1151) box$483
8 GB, G.SKILL Value DDR4 2133MHz$127
ASUS Main board desktop B150 (S1151, DDR4, USB3.1, SATA III, DVI, Audio, LAN) mATX Retail$142
MSI Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 GDDR5 4GB/128bit, 1210MHz/7000MHz, PCI-E 3.0 x16, DP, HDMI, DVI-D, Sleeve Fan Cooler(Double Slot) Retail$355
Seagate BarraCuda 1TB HDD, 64MB, 7200rpm, High-Performance$130
Kingston UV400 120GB SSD, 2.5” 7mm, SATA 6 Gbit/s$118
Cooler Master Z1, USB3.0 black, 2x120mm$93
500W Power Supply, ANTEC VP500PC ES, ATX v2.3, 120mm vent.$117

Total:$1927
