Cycling through a roundabout

Hey everyone!

My brother is claiming that it’s actually illegal to ride a bike through a roundabout. I’ve been digging through the legal codes and even the NCAA guidelines, but I can't find anything stating that's against the law. Does anyone here actually know if that's true or if he's just making things up?

I don't see why that would be an issue. I mean, what else are you supposed to do when you hit a roundabout? Just stop and wait?

So, they put up this new roundabout right in front of my place, complete with a sidewalk on the left side... then, out of nowhere, they slap a "No Bicycles" sign right before the entrance one day, only to have it vanish the next. I’m sitting here wondering why they even bothered putting it up if they were just going to take it down, but my brother insists that even without the sign, bikes aren't allowed in the roundabout anyway. I guess we'll see.

tell my brother he hasn't got a clue

if there isn't a sign or any kind of markings on the road, you're legally allowed to drive

Wait, the left side of the roundabout? Is that the inner lane🙂 or were you thinking the sidewalk runs along the opposite side of the road through the roundabout itself?
And maybe that sign was just to stop people from riding on the sidewalk? There’s a spot near a suburb outside of Chicago where they have signs at the start of the walkway banning bikes and motorcycles from the pavement.

Sure, I'll grab a photo when I'm there. Honestly, I'm feeling a bit lazy about it since I'm just hitting an incline and trying to pick up speed after turning at the intersection.🙂
Though, now I've got this nagging feeling that rowdyharbor already posted that photo somewhere on the forum. I'll just shoot him a message and ask.🙂

Give me a break. This makes zero sense. We’re seeing roundabouts popping up everywhere on our highways lately, and I honestly don't see the issue with navigating one. As long as the road's classification and priority level allow for cycling, then passing through a roundabout should be a given.

Why wouldn't I be allowed to use a roundabout?

If you're out there sharing the road, you have to drive like everyone else—just follow the rules...

That’s my approach, anyway—I’ve even cruised right past State Troopers without a single issue...
