I’m sitting here looking at this absolute mess of a thread regarding the whole spark situation, and honestly, I can’t believe my eyes.

Why on earth was ex Anaïs banned when it’s blindingly obvious to anyone following the US, LSE, or even the Zapatistas (where Yildirim already picked up a partial ban, if you can believe it...)—or even just reading this specific discussion—that she isn't the one at fault here?

Even the neutral regulars like Aisling and Lastan (myself included) have all pointed out the exact same thing.

Yildirim basically hunts down almost every single post by ex Anaïs. He’ll chime in, whether he’s quoting her directly or just dropping a sneaky 🙄 comment, mostly just to pick at her or throw these really underhanded insults her way...

The guy has been banned multiple times before for picking fights and being disrespectful specifically toward her—yet somehow, the mods keep letting him slide, and I just don't get why. But then, after she finally snaps and says what needs to be said—after ignoring his nonsense a million times—suddenly they both get hit with a ban.

Look, ex Anaïs is always there to lend a hand or offer some solid advice. Her posts are consistently high-quality, thoughtful, and constructive. She never goes looking for trouble or starts drama with anyone (it's just not how she's wired), except when she's forced to defend herself against someone who relentlessly stalks her across the forum, calling her out and insulting her.

I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks about this.

And she just keeps biting back at him, unfortunately.

Now, look, he’s been properly banned and blacklisted for his constant trolling and insults, I know that. But allowing someone who’s being targeted to relentlessly hit him with things like "you're a freak," "you're an idiot," "get lost," or "piss off" isn't exactly kind or productive for the rest of the community, if you'll permit me to say so. It’s certainly not pleasant for the other users who have to read through it, nor is it particularly relevant to the discussion at hand.

The reality of the situation is that he latched onto her like a moth to a flame, but that doesn't objectively grant her the right to insult him within the threads. The moderators really ought to address the insults and trolling from both sides, rather than just focusing on the one side that was targeted by a sanctimonious troll.

A certain level of cultured, civilized discourse should be maintained here, which is, among other things, the duty of our poor moderators—so I feel compelled to point that out.

If someone is actually stalking you, just put them on ignore and stop engaging. Tell the moderators and call it a day. Anaïs chose to respond to every single one of his quotes, telling him to get lost, which essentially just hands him more ammunition to quote her, insult her, and engage in this endless back-and-forth.

There, that is my take as someone who has been watching, deleting, and banning their tug-of-war in an attempt to help a colleague and support her approach. You can't forbid people from quoting you or replying to your posts, but when a situation turns out like this, the best move is to use the ignore function and stay consistent. Otherwise, you're just feeding the fire, and we see how well that ends.

Of course. It’s one thing to participate in discussions, but it's quite another to follow someone into subforums you don't even frequent just to quote them solely to be insulting and completely off-topic.
Yildirim typically posts in the US and LSE sections. He always has. He didn't show up there specifically to harass ex Anaïs. He's been posting in the spark thread for a long time now. He isn't there because of ex Anaïs; at least, that much seems obvious.
I can certainly see why she might find it irritating. However, as long as he isn't breaking any forum rules and is responding to posts politely, his comments won't be deleted or sanctioned. She should probably just put him on ignore and disregard everything he says. I suppose there isn't really any other solution.

It isn't true that he is being tolerated or allowed to be insulting. But we should also be clear that she won't be tolerated doing that either.
