Hey there,

I think it’s finally time to retire my trusty, albeit ancient, Samsung 931 BF. It’s served me well, but it's time for an upgrade. I need something that can handle both heavy gaming sessions and my daily work grind.
I’m looking at something at least 23" and hoping to stay under about $733. I’ve been falling down a rabbit hole of online reviews lately and narrowed it down to two specific models.
Here they are:

and

So, what’s the verdict on these two? Every review I stumble upon seems to rave about them, though I did hear some whispers that the Acer isn't actually as top-tier as the folks over at BUG-ovac made it out to be—you know, when they crowned it Monitor of the Year alongside that 24" Dell for like $300.
Does anyone know of anything better or higher quality within this budget that I could actually find here in the States?

The Dell U2311H would absolutely eat both of them for breakfast.

So I'm just sitting here checking out this review, and honestly, compared to the Dell U2311H, it’s actually not half bad. Is this really the best bang for your buck out there right now?

The XL2370 is a solid choice—really solid—but you went with the HD version that includes a built-in TV tuner. Do you actually need that? Honestly, the "standard" XL2370 is about $167 cheaper, so you might just be throwing money away if you aren't planning on watching broadcast TV on your monitor. That’s the only real difference here. As for that Acer, I haven't laid eyes on it myself, but based on this review, it looks pretty mediocre: http://www.digitalversus.com/acer-s2...7_7728_38.html

If you want to dig into the actual performance of the XL2370, check out these reviews:

The "standard" XL2370 goes for about... $167 Look, just go for the cheaper one so you aren't basically throwing cash down the drain for nothing. Seriously, the only real difference between them is the tuner. I haven't laid eyes on that Acer model myself, but based on this review? It looks like a total piece of junk. So, I was digging through this review on the Acer S27 series over at DigitalVersus... you know how those deep dives go. It’s one of those things where you spend way too much time staring at color accuracy charts when you could be doing literally anything else with your life. But here we are. The reviewer is basically dissecting the panel performance, looking at everything from contrast ratios to how much the colors bleed when things get intense. It’s pretty technical stuff. You got your standard measurements, the usual suspects regarding brightness levels, and that whole debate about whether the built-in speakers are actually usable or just there to make the monitor look "complete." Spoiler alert: they're usually garbage. It makes me wonder, though. Does anyone actually sit there with a magnifying glass checking the subpixel layout before hitting "buy" on Amazon? Or are we all just vibing, hoping the backlight doesn't look like a flashlight in a dark alley the moment we try to watch a movie? Anyway, if you're the type who needs to know exactly how many nits of brightness you're getting before you commit, this is probably worth a skim. Just don't expect it to change your life. It's just more specs to obsess over.

If you want to check out some reviews for the XL2370, you can find them right here:
So, I was digging through some old threads and stumbled onto this review for the Samsung 931 BF. You know, those old-school monitors that used to be everywhere? Honestly, looking back at these specs feels like reading a history book written by someone who’s had way too much caffeine. Is it just me, or does everything from that era feel strangely more "solid" than the plastic junk we deal with now? Maybe it's just nostalgia hitting me hard, or maybe I'm just getting old. Who knows? Anyway, if you're still rocking one of these in some corner of the US, how are you even surviving? It’s basically a relic at this point. Still, there's something about that specific screen quality that makes modern budget panels look kind of... sad? Just a thought. Not that anyone actually cares anymore.
So, I was digging through some old threads and stumbled upon this review for the BenQ Zowie XL2370. Honestly, where does the time go? It feels like just yesterday we were all obsessing over refresh rates like they were the holy grail of gaming. The reviewer goes deep into the weeds on this one—real technical stuff. You know how it is when you start reading about panel response times and motion clarity, and suddenly two hours have vanished into thin air? Yeah, that happened to me. It’s a solid breakdown if you actually care about the nitty-gritty details of how a monitor handles fast-paced movement. Is it worth the hype? Is it still relevant? Probably depends on whether you're still chasing those millisecond gains or if you've finally accepted that your eyes aren't built for pro-level twitch reflexes anymore. Anyway, if you're looking to nerd out on specs, give it a read. Just don't blame me when you end up staring at a screen of numbers wondering why your current setup feels so sluggish.

So, I've been staring at these two for a bit now. The XL2370 versus the Dell U2311H. It’s basically a showdown between a gaming specialist and a productivity workhorse, right? Let's break it down before my brain melts. The XL2370... man, if you're actually trying to play something competitive, this is the one. It’s built for speed. Everything about it screams "I want to see things move fast." But let's be real—the colors can feel a little... off? A bit washed out compared to what you'd expect from a high-end display. It’s like eating fast food; it gets the job done quickly, but you aren't exactly winning any culinary awards. Then there's the Dell U2311H. This thing is the opposite. It’s that reliable, smooth-running office beast. If you're sitting in an office in Chicago or just working from home in Austin, this is what you want for looking at spreadsheets or editing photos. The color accuracy is actually decent. It’s beautiful, in a "I have my life together" kind of way. The downside? Don't even think about gaming on it. You'll feel like you're playing through molasses. The motion blur will drive you insane. So, what's the verdict? Are you a sweat trying to climb ranks in a shooter? Go XL2370. Do you actually care about how things look while you're grinding through work? Get the Dell U2311H. It really just comes down to whether you value raw speed or actual visual quality. Why is it always a trade-off, anyway? Can't we just have both? Probably not. Not in this economy.

Yeah, I get it, it’s cheaper. But honestly? Finding a basic xl2370 around Cleveland is a total lost cause. I might have to trek over to a place like Chicago if anyone's even selling one there.

So, after digging a bit deeper into the specs for the Dell U2311H, it’s starting to look like a total steal for the price. Honestly? I think I'm probably gonna pull the trigger on this one.
If anyone else has a better idea, let me know 🙂.

P.S. Big thanks to stormywolf39 and Benjamin King2 for the help.

If I recall correctly, the HD model also has a slightly faster response time—by about 3ms—plus you get the built-in speakers and all those extra ports.
