Born back in San Antonio, Texas, on June 20, 1968, Robert Anthony Rodriguez is this incredible Mexican-American writer, producer, musician, and director who basically mastered the art of the grind. He’s become legendary for cranking out these indie gems and even studio flicks on tiny budgets, all while shooting at a lightning-fast pace that would make any Hollywood studio exec's head spin! Most of his iconic work has been captured out in the landscapes of Texas and Mexico.

- Have you actually managed to sit down and watch every single one of his films?

Honestly, I’ve always felt that Rodriguez is such a solid director with a killer lineup of movies.

I mean, if we're talking favorites, I'd have to go with classics like El Mariachi (1992), Desperado (1995), Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003), From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), Machete (2010), and Sin City (2005).

Those are just my top picks, though if you look at his whole filmography, I'd say pretty much everything he touches is pretty good in my book.

Everything works fine on my end, except for Spy Kids, which just won't load for some reason

I just can't bring myself to love Once Upon a Time in Mexico. 😁 Everything else? Great. 🙂

Sin City is definitely worth a watch—it’s not bad at all—but honestly, most of his other stuff just feels like a tribute to that old-school trashy cinema I actually enjoy watching much more...

I honestly think all of his movies are just great fun.

I’m a big fan of his work—especially Machete—but I just can't bring myself to enjoy Spy Kids. 🙂

I’ve never really been a fan of Rodriguez... though honestly, I haven't sat down to watch one of his films in probably five years or more.

Maybe if I gave his work another look, a sort of re-evaluation, but I just don't feel it right now... I simply don't have the headspace for him at the moment. 🤷

Personally, he's one of my favorite directors. I've seen his entire filmography except for Sin City, and I have to say, I'm impressed by all of them, especially... El Mariachi I suppose I could say something regarding the trilogy and Machete.

Just finished watching Bedhead. Honestly... it’s a step forward for him. 😬 I couldn't tell if those kids were actually his (David and Rebecca), but man, it felt pretty amateurish.

On another note, I actually enjoyed Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and Machete was a blast. I can't stand Spy Kids, though, but that's nothing new.

In my estimation, "Sin City" stands as his most formidable achievement—though, to be fair, one must also credit Tarantino and Miller for their contributions. Following closely behind is "Planet Terror," which marks the point where I draw the line regarding films that have left me genuinely breathless with admiration.
I find "From Dusk Till Dawn" and his segment within "Four Rooms" to be perfectly serviceable. While the Mexico trilogy is somewhat digestible, I don't even bother attempting to sit through "Spy Kids."
As for "Machete," I am holding onto high expectations, saving it for just the right moment.

He's young and lacks experience. He needs to stop making kid stuff and actually shoot something like Sin City that stands way above his other work. I'm honestly worried he'll just keep churning out juvenile crap without Tarantino... what do you guys think?

Men From Dusk Till Dawn and Desperado are great movies. They fall into that category where I’ll happily rewatch them, or at least won't change the channel if they happen to be on TV.

Now, I have this issue where Sin City—which I can't deny has some quality—just didn't do it for me. It was painfully boring, honestly. I spent the whole time just waiting for it to end. 🤷

Honestly, Spy Kids 1 is totally fine, but you really have to remember it’s a kid's movie and watch it through that lens, you know?

As for Spy Kids 2, it isn't bad at all—actually, I'd say it's pretty good—but man, that third one just falls a bit flat for me.

When you're sitting down to watch these, I think the secret is to just look at them through a child's eyes because they honestly transport me back to that whole childhood magic, though if we're being real, they might actually be some of the weaker entries in Robert Rodriguez's filmography, which is probably something kids wouldn't even care about anyway, right? 😁

Despite all its stylistic flourishes, > became tedious to me quite quickly; while the first segment holds up, the follow-up is a complete slog.

In truth, his absolute favorite remains that movie about high schoolers dealing with those wicked alien professors—I can't recall the title offhand, but it provides excellent entertainment.

Machete (2010) - just finished watching this one again.

I honestly think I’ve seen this thing three or four times already, but what can you even do when it’s just so damn fun? 🙏🤣

Man, what a glorious piece of trash... total overkill 😂 ...but seriously, this movie is absolute gold. It’s easily one of the craziest action flicks I've seen in the last five years, maybe even longer if I'm being real. 👍
