I’m not sure if this topic has already been covered here, but I’m feeling pretty lost and could really use some perspective... My mom (45) was just at Mayo Clinic, and they told her she has colon cancer that has spread to her liver. The doctor mentioned that because it’s technically caught in an "early" stage, she hasn't shown any symptoms yet, and that surgery combined with chemo might actually resolve the issue. But honestly, I don't even know how that works in practice.
How long does the whole process usually take?
What kind of support or supplies will we need to get ready?
Is it actually possible to beat something like this when it's considered early stage?
I guess I’m just terrified of losing her, and the thought of anything happening to her is something I'm really struggling to wrap my head around.😢😢😢😢

Maybe you should try asking over there? 🤷

Good luck with everything...

You should definitely check out that thread driftingcanyon16 linked. There might be someone there who’s dealt with that exact type of cancer specifically...

As for your questions... honestly, every cancer case is different and everyone's body reacts its own way. I lost both of my parents to cancer; my dad had bone cancer and my mom had breast cancer, so I don't have any firsthand experience with the specific one you're talking about... What I can tell you is that catching it early is a massive win, because that's when you actually have some real options on the table...

She really needs to get that surgery scheduled ASAP, stay on top of the chemo, and stick to the radiation if they go that route. When things are caught in the early stages, it usually opens up the door to a good amount of "normal" years ahead...

Keep your head up, stay brave, and I'm sending all the good vibes your way!

As for your questions... honestly, every case is different. Every body reacts to cancer in its own way. I lost both of my parents to it—my dad to bone cancer and my mom to breast cancer—so I don't have any direct experience with the specific diagnosis you're facing. What I can say, though, is that catching it in the early stages is a massive stroke of luck. It actually leaves you with options.

If I were you, I'd get to surgery as soon as possible and stick strictly to the chemo and radiation schedule if that's what they recommend. When things are caught early, it usually buys you a decent number of "normal" years. You have to take it one step at a time.

Stay strong, stay brave, and I really hope for the best for you.

Thanks for the help and the encouragement. I’m truly sorry you had to go through all of that yourself.

Since you’ve already contributed your thoughts over at Colorectal Cancer, and considering there is already another thread active—one that was actually suggested by some of the other users here—I suppose I should go ahead and close this one out.
