I downloaded The Great Pyramid of Giza today, but I'm getting an error every time I try to play the movie. I’m using VLC Media Player. Does anyone have a fix?

Maybe try using G-Spot to figure out which specific codec you’re missing, or just grab the latest version of the Kodiak codec pack. 🙂

Don't you dare—not even under extreme duress—provide any specific details about what kind of error it actually is. This way is much more entertaining. 🙄

Well, I guess I should ask what you actually did with the advice I gave you earlier that worked so well. What's G-Spot saying now? 🙂

I'd suggest downloading VLC Media Player. It comes pre-packaged with all the necessary video codecs you'll need to get everything running smoothly right out of the box.

I downloaded and installed http://img6.imageshack.us/i/xxxxxxa.png/—it worked perfectly fine initially. But today, I tried downloading The Chronicles of Narnia : The Voyage of The Dawn Treader and I'm getting an error again (specifically just for that movie).

What's up G-Spot. 🙂

Just grab "VLC Media Player". That thing plays basically anything you throw at it.

Just download "VLC Media Player"—it handles just about anything you throw at it.

I might look like an idiot for asking this now, but what actually is G-Spot?

Limewire is just some free little tool that figures out which codec you'll need to actually run an AVI file, plus it throws in some extra details too.

I'm not touching that movie until it hits Pirate Bay. I actually went ahead and downloaded those players you guys suggested, but every time I try to run the file, I just get hit with an error message claiming I'm missing codecs—as if I'm supposed to watch everything through Windows Media Player. Of course, that won't work either. So, I did what anyone would do: I headed over to the Microsoft site to grab some utility that was supposed to give me a code to download the necessary codecs for Windows Media Player. In the end? Absolutely nothing.

So, once you fire up Limewire and load that .avi file from the movie, just see which specific codec it says is missing. 😢
If VLC can't handle playing it, then the file is probably just a fake; I guess it depends on whether you grabbed it from a public tracker or a private one. 🙂

It looks like a bit of a mess here. I'd say maybe you should just wait until the Napster version drops before downloading anything; it’ll probably be more reliable that way. 🙂

I was hoping for something—anything—but now there’s just nothing. I really hope we aren't looking at some kind of virus here.

I really hope it isn't 🙄, but when you grabbed that from the public torrent, wasn't there an nfo or a txt file included? Usually, if there's an issue with a file—like a movie—someone will post a note so others don't waste their time downloading junk. 🙂

There was nothing written. It seems odd to me—I was mostly grabbing from users who had already finished 100% of the download and left it for the rest of us. If they realized the file was bad, why wouldn't they just pull the torrent?
