I mean, nobodyβs stopping me... I'm just worried it might mess with my SAT scores... π

As far as I know, you shouldn't have sex within 24 hours of the exam if you want the results to actually mean anything.

Iβve heard that same thing floating aroundβand Iβve even heard the rumor that you shouldn't overdo it with the shampooing for a few hours beforehand π.
Is that just some urban legend, or is there actually some truth to it...π€· I don't know, I guess I just never thought to ask

Well, what kind of visit is it exactly?
Just a consultation?
A routine exam?
A Pap smear?
Swabs?

You can use a condom if you want to make sure there aren't any "remnants" left behind π¬...
Honestly, I just find the idea of some guy being inside me right before an exam totally gross.

Seriously, don't go having sex before your Pap smear . You gotta wait at least 24 hoursβI usually play it safe and wait two full days π. Thatβs what my OB-GYN told me, anyway. Apparently, sperm can mess up the results, and even the lube on condoms can throw things off
.
If youβre just doing a standard physical exam where they're feeling things out, then I guess sex doesn't matter

This is why I love this forumβthereβs always something new to pick up. π
Iβve had both swabs and Pap smears done, and my OBGYN never once mentioned anything about skipping sex before the appointment. It really should be noted, though, especially if they're swabbing for specific infections.

Look, maybe it doesn't totally mess things up, but why even take the risk? I mean, we can probably manage one day without sex, right? π

I guess Iβve always just abstained the day before. π Honestly, whenever I have to see any kind of doctor, my nerves are shot and I can't focus on anythingβand that goes for the OB-GYN too.

In what way does it interfere π? Are we talking about it failing to detect a shift, or worse, reporting a change that isn't actually there?
I'm giving this some serious thoughtππ.

exactly. honestly, youβd be better off skipping sex for at least 24 hours before a PAP test, but since you mentioned just heading to the OBGYN, I was thinking more along the lines of a standard checkup. for those, it doesn't really matter

I honestly tend to avoid those specific thingsβpretty much exactly how copperraven53 described it (you know, when itβs just all that heavy, intense stuff playing on repeat)
I think I read or heard that somewhere once, and I've just been sticking to that rule ever since, thoughβI supposeβI never actually bothered to ask my OB-GYN about it.

To seems perfectly logical to meβabstaining from sex for 24 hours before a gynecologist appointment. Iβve never given it much deep thought before, but it strikes me similarly to how one might show up to a dentist appointment after eating something right beforehand, arriving with messy teeth... I know, it's a bit of a silly comparison, but the thought just popped into my head.π

I guess I'm kinda overthinking this nowππ.
To be totally real with you, I don't know π€·. I didn't get into the weeds with my OB-GYN; I just asked once and she basically told me to skip sex the day before any Pap smears or swabs.

I really should probably head in for my annual Pap smear... just one of those routine checkups. :/
I know it sounds totally ridiculous to say I can't deal without sex, but my boyfriend is finally coming home after being away for so long, and itβd be such a waste if I couldn't take advantage of that.
Thanks for all the advice, guys :klap:
