Prompted by the recent posts from that newly banned user and his clone, who’s still busy cluttering up the Vegetarianism thread over on the SON subforum, I’m suggesting—just as Lastan pointed out in post—that we should start reporting this kind of behavior to their actual internet service providers for abuse.
Not only was he being downright rude and shameful toward other members like Lastan, judolino, and Rinnma, but he also took aim at our moderators, Götterdämmerung and Pharmacist's Daughter. And yet, here he is, still polluting the space with what are likely his greatest intellectual achievements...

Thanks.

The abuse department is basically just a medieval torture device, right? They track you online and troll you—literally "abusing" you. It’s a brilliant idea 🙏

Abuse? Seriously, who actually is this "Abuse" person?

For those who don't get it—or are just playing dumb—the forum admins have the power to ban a user. And once they do, they can go hunting for any clone accounts and nuke those too. The problem is, some people just keep spinning up new profiles and causing chaos until they finally push someone over the edge.
At the same time, the admins can grab that user's IP address, contact the abuse department at their ISP, lay out exactly what kind of nonsense the person is pulling, and ask them to handle it.
Usually, the user gets a warning before they actually get kicked off the grid. I’ve actually dealt with this myself a few times when spammers were hounding me via Microsoft. For whatever reason, once an ISP steps in like that, the bullshit usually stops.

We should start reporting these nuisances directly to their actual ISPs via abuse@isp.com.

Oh, believe me, people are already on it; quite a few forum members have actually had reports filed against them because of outbursts just like this. The thing is, it doesn't always work as smoothly or as quickly as we'd all love it to. You've always got those persistent little pests out there who just don't seem to care what anyone does to stop them. 😵

The intersection of two specific variables—"I want to be as tedious on this forum as a stomach flu" and "I actually know how to set up my own proxy"—provides just enough of a profile to realize we shouldn't bother trying to silence the idiots who had their parents buy them a computer yesterday, only for the kid to immediately start trolling everyone. 🙂

Personally, I’m all for the old-school IRC tactics: if the first report doesn't do the trick, you send a second one. And if you need a third? Well, then you go after the entire ISP by getting them blocked—let them explain to their own customers why they aren't actually handling the abuse reports being sent to their service desk.
Imagine serving every single user a landing page that basically says, “Access denied because your ISP, $ISP, is refusing to act on reports regarding users who disrupt discussions and violate their terms of service. For more info, check abuse@isp.com.”
Given how many users there are, don't you think we might have to pull a move like that more than once? 😁

Especially if you include that kind of threat in the follow-up report.

And considering how many other forums are out there—do you really believe people would just sit around waiting for ages before they decide to settle down somewhere else? 🙂div>

Yeah. Totally.

How many forums even like this exist in America?
As far as I can tell—not many.

Back when this forum went down for a bit a while back, a few dozen of us basically invaded the Globalnet forum. It was a whole thing. And then, as soon as this place was back up, we all just vanished from there.
