Hi everyone, I noticed there’s already a similar thread here, but I couldn't quite find the specific information I was looking for.. 😁
So, in six days, I’m scheduled to get my upper braces fitted. Since then, my friends have been relentlessly telling me it's all a waste of time—that my teeth will just shift right back to their original positions anyway, making the whole ordeal pointless. They even insisted that if I don't wear them for at least two years, everything will revert to how it was before. Of course, the timeline isn't really my call; my orthodontist mentioned I'll likely only need them for a year.
I would love to hear from anyone who has actually worn fixed braces. Is it true that teeth tend to migrate back to their old spots? What has your experience been like? To be honest, I'm feeling a bit rattled by all this skepticism.
Thanks in advance

Look, first things first: you’re currently posting in the "women's health" subforum—which is specifically dedicated to women's health—so you might want to head over to the general "Health" section instead.
Secondly, the fact that your friends are giving you a hard time about this is just plain silly, especially when we're talking about fixed braces. They aren't medical professionals, after all; they aren't the ones you should be taking cues from. You have your own dentist—or rather, your orthodontist—and as long as you follow their lead, everything will be fine. How long you'll need them, or how they'll be worn, really just depends on your specific dental structure, what needs correcting, and all those other variables. I wore removable retainers as a kid, and they definitely did the trick. Then, a few years later during my college days, I went with fixed braces—following my orthodontist's instructions to the letter, of course. Almost all my friends wore them back then, so I honestly don't get why your friends are making such a big deal out of it or teasing you. Anyway, I hope that helps a bit. Best.

Moderators, could you please move this thread to the appropriate section?☕

You really should have directed this question toward the permanent retainer discussion thread; it seems you might have overlooked it, considering there are at least ten pages of detailed information already covering this exact topic.

Your teeth will stay in their correct positions as long as you consistently wear your retainers, particularly if you are using a permanent fixed retainer.
