I’m 21 and I’ve been dealing with some vein issues over the last two years. Basically, ever since I quit playing competitive handball, I’ve lost a lot of muscle mass, and now my veins feel really weak and look visible all over my body. I’ve got these little spider veins popping up on my legs, and whenever it gets hot out, they bulge even more. They don't actually hurt, but honestly, they aren't great to look at.

So, here's my question: What can I do to strengthen my veins? Should I pick up a specific sport, try certain supplements, or something else? I recently started doing Zumba—you know, that mix of aerobics and Latin dance—and it can get pretty intense, which makes the veins in my legs pop out. I'm wondering what you guys think: is this making things worse, or is it actually good for strengthening them and preventing further issues? Or should I look for something lower impact, like Pilates or Yoga? Ugh...😁

Have you actually gone to see a doctor about those veins yet? Honestly, it’s probably best to get a professional opinion first, and then maybe follow up with a venous Doppler ultrasound if they think it's necessary. 😉
Birth control pills can definitely mess with your veins, too. That was actually my experience, though they cleared up once I stopped taking them. (My Doppler scan came back totally perfect, by the way.🙏)

Anyway, when it comes to vein issues, it really just depends on what's causing them. Some people swear by compression stockings, others use creams with horse chestnut, or even go for laser treatments...

Personally, I think you should try to avoid jumping around too much. Back when I was dealing with this, my doctor told me to stay away from heavy weightlifting. They suggested sticking to things like walking, light jogging, swimming, dancing, cycling, or even gymnastics... 😁

I'd say Zumba seems like a pretty solid option. 😁

Swimming, if you have the chance, or maybe even some water aerobics

🙂 I think I’m going to stick with Zumba, and maybe sprinkle in some Pilates here and there too! I’d love to go swimming, but I have to stay away from public pools because of my dermatitis... so I am seriously counting down the days until summer and hitting the beach! :P

Honestly, you might want to have a doctor take a look at that. It might be worth starting on some kind of treatment now—because, unfortunately, those veins are only going to become a bigger headache for you down the road... 🤷

I went to see my primary care doctor back in the summer when my veins were acting up big time... and honestly? He just brushed it off as some typical female thing. He wouldn't even give me a referral for a specialist because he was convinced I didn't need one. It’s not like my legs actually hurt, but the issue is that whenever it gets hot out, the veins get super pronounced and I start getting those tiny broken capillaries. My only real option is to just go out and pay for a private consultation out of pocket since I don't have a referral. 🙂 Once I manage to scrape the cash together (living that broke student life, you know 🙂)

Maybe it's time to switch doctors 😁
Honestly, I get those same vein pulsations whenever it gets really hot out—or even just when I clench my fist, for instance... I usually just chalk it up to having strong veins, but nothing ever actually bursts. I’m certainly no medical expert, but still, that doesn't seem quite right 🤷

Yeah, I totally agree... I honestly just chalked it up to being lazy ever since I stopped working out. I haven't really done anything active for maybe two or three years now, and about a year ago, I started noticing these issues popping up. I did some digging online and figured it might actually be because my muscles have weakened so much. Plus, I have to admit, I definitely have a genetic predisposition for nerve issues! At this point, I don't have much choice but to focus on prevention 🙂 and I've already decided I'm going to get that checkup as soon as I can. At the end of the day, health is everything!

A vein just popped out 😢 on my right thigh—it’s stretching pretty much all the way down. It looks terrible. Everyone keeps blaming my running and the elliptical, claiming I’m overdoing it. I even bought some cream and tried slathering it on, but it did absolutely nothing. Now everyone is nagging me to see a doctor, but honestly, I’m terrified they’ll just tell me to quit exercising altogether 😢

Can this actually go away? No one else in my family deals with vein issues. Anyone have any experience with this?

They aren't going anywhere. Honestly, the only real solution is to have them removed. If you need some temporary relief, you could try compression stockings or an elastic bandage—just make sure you wrap it all the way from your foot up past the vein itself. Personally, I've tried every cream under the sun, and none of them did a damn thing. This started popping up when I was about 18, and now I'm 30. After a few years, the pain escalated to the point where there are days I’m practically limping just to get around. Interestingly enough, staying active actually helps dull the ache. During my Insanity workouts, I didn't feel the pain at all. But yeah, it's definitely high time I finally go see a doctor to get this sorted out once and for all. 😁

I’m honestly just sitting here waiting for a few more veins to start popping out across my arms.
I suppose my ultimate goal is to eventually have one of those massive, thick vascular lines running right down the center of my forearm. Total beast mode, I guess. 🙂

😁 I’m pretty sure we’re talking about varicose veins here, 😁 trust me when I say you do NOT want that. 😁
