The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Every single time this thing comes on, I find myself glued to the screen... even though, honestly, I can't stand musicals.
When I was a kid, I’d stay up until two in the morning just to catch it for the hundredth time whenever it aired on TNT.
What’s your take on this movie? For me, it’s easily one of the best films ever made 😍

An absolute masterpiece—pure cinematic magic. I'm actually planning on rewatching it today; just picked up the Blu-ray copy.

I honestly think it’s fantastic that they used actual actors... even under masks.
Nowadays, they'd probably just CGI half the cast... and frankly, I find that revolting.

I watched that movie for the first time about a year ago. It was a total letdown—honestly, I found it incredibly dull and could barely make it to the end. 🤷

Word on the street is they're filming some horror version of The Wizard of Oz

Honestly, I’m much more into the psychedelic vibes of The Wizard of Oz than any potential horror reboot... you can check out how it looks and sounds in the link below 😁

Basically, they just played the entire Dark Side of the Moon album over the movie footage, and since the runtimes don't actually match up, the film just keeps going until the music stops 🙂

Honestly, even Oz Return to Oz from back in the day had those creepy horror vibes, so it doesn't really feel like a kids' movie to me at all.

I remember loving the book when I was a kid, though the movie was just okay—nothing to write home about. I caught the animated series back in the late '80s and actually thought that was pretty solid. There’s even an adult version out there (you can find it on Pornhub 😁) where Dorothy masturbates and sleeps with the witch. 🙂 Personally, I think this version beats the original: 😬

Man, this was one of the very first movies I ever saw. Like, way back when I was just a little kid. It’s burned into my brain, seriously.

Oz the Great and Powerful actually hits pretty hard for me because it feels like such a massive homage. It totally took me right back to those old school days.

I saw this movie for the first time back when we were still rocking a black-and-white TV, so I didn't even notice once it switched to color. That was actually the day my sister and I watched it while my parents ran out to pick up a new color set. When my sister warned me that a witch was coming, I just dove under the covers and shut my eyes tight, waiting for the witch to disappear. (Or maybe she just planted that idea in my head and I went along with it 🤔, though if I'm being honest, I was pretty terrified 🤔) 🙏
Later on, I revisited it as an adult—maybe even twice.
(But honestly, that was nothing compared to the absolute trauma I went through as a kid watching that Michael Jackson thriller—just the opening bit, really—but that's a whole other story)

The author of The Wizard of Oz was actually tapping into some economic subtext—something about the gold standard, inflation, and all that jazz. I can't quite recall the specifics—brain fog—but regardless, the movie is a total masterpiece.
