Thanks to the topic, you guys talked me into another rewatch, so I sat down with the first one last night—the Director's cut, obviously. For me, the first and last installments have always been the peak; the third one never really hit the mark. Honestly, you can probably forget about any new sequels. That story is finished. Plus, once they took out Jet Li, who is left to play a worthy villain? Jet Li in the fourth one is easily one of the most terrifying bad guys in action movie history, right up there with the T1000 in Terminator 2 or Predator in Predator vs Predator.

Jet Li is an awesome villain... though maybe a little too much kung fuuuuuu for my taste, but hey, whatever...
Now they’d probably need some serial killer or some leader of a KKK group with nasty militant vibes as the bad guy... then maybe throw in some innocent guy just to crush him... he he he... just kidding!

The first one is still the first one for a reason—it’s got one of the most legendary final showdowns ever, featuring Mel Gibson and Gary Busey.

Totally agree—they're my absolute favorites. I could probably watch them 10,000 times and never get bored... especially with Gibson in his prime.😍

For me, there’s really only one true original. I’ve seen it countless times—honestly, I can barely tell the difference between it and the others, which all just kind of blend together like sheep in a field... Plus, I just "love" it when movies completely forget who their own characters are—like how Mel Gibson totally forgot he was this elite spec ops guy who could seriously take anyone out with his bare hands, you know? Which is basically where the whole "Die Hard" vibe comes from...

Like how Mel Gibson forgot he was supposed to be this elite spec ops guy who could kill people with his bare hands without breaking a sweat, which is literally where the "Die Hard Collection - Director's cut" title comes from.

He never really showed off top-tier martial arts skills in the franchise anyway; he was just a loose cannon and a crack shot.
In the first one, he barely managed to take down Mr. Josh, in the second he almost died from a heart attack because of that old racist guy (at least until Donner smelled money and rewrote the ending), and in the fourth, Jet Li absolutely demolished him every single time they crossed paths. I don't really remember much about the third one.

The only truly impressive hand-to-hand moment was in the first movie, when he snapped that Asian guy's neck in one move.

In the third one, he’s going head-to-head with that arms dealer—you know, the ex-cop type.
That whole segment is my favorite part, mostly because the comedy hits its peak right when Leo Getz is being his usual self,
and honestly, the duo of Gibson and Glover? They’re still definitely not too old for this shit.
If you look at the era, it stands right up there with Die Hard as one of the absolute best.

The Die Hard Collection is absolutely phenomenal. There isn’t a single second of filler in the whole thing; it's easily one of the greatest franchises ever put to film. The world has never seen an action-comedy blend quite like this, and honestly, I doubt we'll see anything even close to it anytime soon. 😁

I’ve been thinking about doing a marathon of these four movies for ages. Honestly, lately it feels more like one big fan reunion, but whatever. 👍

Mel Gibson confirmed he’ll be directing the fifth installment—and get this—Danny Glover is returning to his role too.
