I’ve spent some time scrolling through that site myself. It’s incredibly confusing, but here’s the gist: you have one tube that needs to slide into the other—it’s a tight fit. You drill into the smaller tube to set your screws, then cut a slot into the larger tube so the screws can pass through it. Between those screws, you insert rings similar to the ones you saw in the video. Note that these aren't solid rings; they also have slots. You wrap them in a way that makes them look like complete circles. Above each slot on the ring, there should be a letter that forms part of the combination. When the code is correctly aligned, the slots in the rings line up to create a straight path, allowing the screws to slide through unimpeded. If you don't get it right, the screws just get stuck in the rings. If this makes any sense—I’ve actually built a few cryptexes myself.
