What happens if you drop a lit match into a gas tank?

You can't even drop a lit match into a gas tank... the fuel, or more accurately, its vapors, would ignite before the match even touches the liquid

Look, it’s pretty simple physics. If you’ve got the right conditions to generate enough vapor to catch fire, and the tank is big enough to hold all that pressure, you're going to get a detonation. If those conditions aren't met? It just flickers out.
