Has anyone here actually gone through a sinus CT scan? I'm trying to figure out where the best place to get one done in Washington, D.C. would be, and how much of my day I should set aside for the actual procedure.

Thanks

It’ll take about 10 minutes. Your doctor will walk you through everything while they're handing over the referral...

Hey everyone,

I was hoping someone could help me make sense of these sinus CT results.

I'm in my late 20s. I have asthma, though it’s not really an issue unless pollen season hits and my allergies flare up. Other than that, I've been having some gum issues, and based on my periodontist's suggestion, I went in for an exam because they thought it might be linked to my sinuses. It's not just their opinion either—I can actually smell something weird coming from my nose, and other people have noticed it too. My dad mentioned a colleague of his had the exact same thing and ended up getting surgery that fixed it... it’s this sour, stale smell. It’s most noticeable when I’m lying down and roll from one side to the other and take a deep breath. Could this be coming from my lungs? I've never heard of anyone having issues like that. I suspected maybe a bacterial infection or fungus or something, but they haven't run those specific tests yet; they just did a physical exam and sent me for this sinus CT.

I forgot to mention that I deal with post-nasal drip sometimes. I’ve never been officially diagnosed, but from what I know, it fits the description perfectly. Though, it hasn't been bothering me much lately.
I've also had two septoplasty surgeries. The first one was a bust. Looks like the second one didn't totally cut it either, though things are definitely better than they were before. Still, I've always felt like my nasal passages are way too narrow, and the doctor who did my physical exam even told his colleagues that everything looks extremely tight in there... As part of that second surgery, I also had a minor cosmetic tweak where they slightly lifted the tip of my nose because it had started to flatten out in the middle. Not surprising, given how much I blow my nose and deal with these allergies... 🙂 Since this second surgery, I feel like air swirls around inside my nose whenever I exhale. Like, right at the tip of my nose—not the bridge, but the very end 🙂

How do you guys read these results? I get most of it, but one part is really confusing me, specifically the part about the thickening—is that something I should be worried about? And I can't remember exactly what my doctor said during the physical... I assume I should probably head back to that same doctor with these results to see what the next move is, right?

Thanks in advance for the help.
