Two specific things immediately caught my attention during that first listen:

It seems to me that Slam is essentially just producing music for music videos. ☕ 😁

Hey everyone.

I happened to stumble upon the band Pendulum recently, and I have to admit, they are absolutely brilliant.
Since I've found myself really gravitating toward that heavier side of live Drum and Bass, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a similar band that might hit that same spot?

Even though I only really vibe with four of their tracks—Tarantula being the obvious one—that live set at Madison Square Garden is just unreal.

Come on now, seriously? After I specifically asked if anyone knew of a band similar to them because I’m looking for some heavier live Drum and Bass to get into, you suggest Goldie? That feels a bit too soft for what I'm after, don't you think? I'm looking for that massive, heavy energy that Pendulum brings to the table.

Thanks Linda Torres27 for the heads-up on the new album; I just listened to a few tracks and they sound absolutely massive, I definitely need to grab this!

p.s. Since my roots are actually in the Punk / Hardcore scene, maybe that's why I gravitate toward Pendulum, but I honestly can't believe no one else can suggest a similar act.

P.S. I actually come from a Punk / Hardcore background when it comes to my music taste, so I think that might be why Pendulum really hits the spot for me. Still, I find it hard to believe that nobody else can suggest a similar band!

I honestly can't stand that mindless, brainless stuff—and don't even get me started on Pendulum. I'm sorry, I really wish I could help you out, but I just don't have any recommendations for you right now.

P.S. Honestly, Goldie - Timeless is just on another level compared to most of his other stuff. It’s absolute perfection. Amen to that.

Just look up sets or mixes from The Panace, Cooh, The Sect, Technical Itch, ogonek, Proket, or even Limewax and Dieselboy....

I don't have anything more recent than this, but honestly, I just can't stop playing Dusk, Fasten your seatbelts, and Girl in The Fire on repeat. They absolutely tear everything apart!

Ah, Pendulum—that powerhouse group that has essentially acted as the gateway drug to Drum and Bass for so many people over the years. For anyone who finds themselves drawn to the Pendulum sound, I might suggest exploring a few other names: Synthetix, Noisia, Phace, Spor, Stakka & Skynet, Black Sun Empire, Teebee, Raiden, or even Cause 4 Concern...

Most of these artists lean into a slightly darker aesthetic—so, perhaps they won't be everyone's cup of tea immediately following a Pendulum set—but they are certainly worth a deep dive. 🙂

He didn't say Spor and Noisia were identical to Pendulum; rather, he was describing the musical landscape he landed in after Pendulum first introduced him to that whole scene. 😉 Personally, I try to avoid getting bogged down in genre debates—mostly because if you start digging deep enough just to win an argument, you'll find a dozen different labels overlapping everywhere. Take Black Sun Empire, for instance—they could easily be classified as neurofunk in their early days, yet they lean more toward dubstep in their later work.

Lately, my rotation has been dominated by those blends of techstep and neurofunk, though if anyone asks, I usually just give them the broad "dnb" label and leave it at that. 😬 Teebee holds a special place in my collection—it’s rare that I can say a specific artist’s music truly shaped me during a certain chapter of my life, but if I had to pick someone for that distinction, he would likely be the first name on my list.
