I might be repeating myself here, but I don't think anyone has actually mentioned this yet:

Maybe we should throw in another John Doe film, which was honestly just as great— The Dog Who Loved Trains

Honestly, looking at those classics, it’s pretty clear how much we still overlook the actual gems our culture produced in the past... We act like we're hitting the jackpot whenever some network decides to run a marathon of old movies. But if my memory serves me right, I don't think a single distributor has ever bothered to release a high-end collector's edition of those films featuring director commentaries or behind-the-scenes insights from the crew.
It’s the same story with home media; most DVDs out there are just low-quality junk—think stuff like slim skin or Zeke's Dynasty—while finding anything by Mimica, Zafranovic, A. Petrovic, Z. Pavlovic, Berkovic, or Papic is basically impossible. People have to jump through hoops just to catch a decent screening.

Movies and literature are probably the best things that ever happened to us, though I guess people seem almost ashamed to admit it.
Anyway, these films are pretty much an essential toolkit for any aspiring screenwriters, actors, or directors nowadays.
Though, like Slobodan Sijan was saying recently, we just don't see those kinds of heavy hitters among actors anymore—legends like Paj Vujisic, Zoran Radmilovic, Bat Stojkovic, Tasko Nacic, or Mija Aleksic.
I’d probably throw in Fabijan Sovagovic, Boris Dvornik, Semka Sokolovic Bertok, and honestly, so many others.

Both Tri and the feather collection, both directed by Aleksandra Petrovica. There are plenty of other great films out there, but these two are easily the best.

Still waiting on someone to upload Kozara, and I can't help but think about Dolly Bell. That film with its incredible scenery, too.

I haven't seen many of the movies mentioned above—truth be told, I hadn't even heard of most of them. This is exactly why I love threads like this. 👍
There’s clearly plenty to watch here, but how on earth am I supposed to track these down? 🤷

You’re absolutely right—it’s been ages since I last sat down to watch that. We're talking more than twenty years ago, which is exactly why I brought it up... I know deep down it really stuck with me, but honestly, it was so long ago that most of the fine details have just slipped through my fingers. Still, if you ask me, Vaatroslav Mimice is easily our greatest director—especially when it comes to *Kaja*, which is an absolute masterpiece.

Exactly, such an incredible film! I actually mentioned it back in my impressions. And if I recall correctly from somewhere, they only used three professional actors for the whole thing.
