NuvaRing: Experiences and reviews?

Back again. It’s been nearly a year now, and I just wanted to drop in and confirm that I am still perfectly happy using my NuvaRing.

P.S. I remember seeing a comment way back at the start of this thread where someone mentioned they stopped getting their period entirely while they were still young... well, that hasn't happened to me. I still get mine, it's just incredibly predictable now—it shows up almost right on the dot🙂—and the flow is much lighter than it used to be, which, honestly, I absolutely love.

I started using this thing at the beginning of the month... and honestly, I haven't really had any side effects except for the fact that my period officially ended eight days ago, yet this bloody spotting just keeps going and going... I suppose it looks like this "period" might just drag on indefinitely...

maybe you just need to hang in there for the first month while everything settles down... I honestly think this whole thing is a massive shock to the system and it takes a little while for your body to finally "sync up."
Of course, if it’s still acting up next month, or if it keeps dragging on for the entire duration—then you really need to call Dr. 😉

As for me, my flow has definitely lightened up, though the number of days I bleed stays about the same as it was before I started NuvaRing.
But honestly, I am beyond thrilled because I used to bleed like a stuck pig for days on end. I used to carry a spare set of clothes to work every single day and just pray to God I’d actually make it to my destination without passing out, since the blood loss used to leave me feeling so weak and anemic 🙄. This thing has been a total lifesaver!! Now, I don't have to play hermit and avoid going anywhere during those first three days anymore ☕ 🙂

It isn't as if I have any other choice besides just waiting this out, but it really is incredibly irritating. Before I started using NuvaRing, I actually had a two-year break where I wasn't on any kind of hormones at all, and prior to that, I was taking the pill and I never experienced side effects quite like these...

The ring was taken out a few days early... along with constant spotting, I ended up getting my actual period too, so I guess this method of birth control just isn't for me. Next week I'm heading to the doctor to get a prescription for Triquilar, because I am definitely moving away from these monophasic headaches.

I finally pulled the trigger on NuvaRing (my first successful run with hormonal birth control 😉. A few years back I tried the pill, but it made me feel absolutely miserable every single time, so I always quit using it..
Now, after a few years, I'm trying NuvaRing and honestly? It’s great. No issues so far, not even any side effects—though I've only had it in for about ten days, so who knows what happens next 😉
One small thing, though: my period ended five days ago, but I'm still dealing with some light brown spotting... reading through the forum, it seems like some of you have dealt with this too. Does anyone know how long this lasts, and does the ring stay fully effective during this period? :-)

As for that brown spotting—personally, I wouldn't sweat it too much. It shouldn't mess with how well the ring works as long as you put it in on schedule (and looking at your post, I’m assuming you did since it’s your first time using it).
Just flip through the little instruction booklet and check the side effects section; they explain everything pretty clearly there.

It’s totally POSSIBLE that next month you won't even have a period at all, just that weird discharge instead.
Either way, your flow is definitely going to lighten up.
I used to deal with the most insane, heavy periods—honestly, it was terrifying just trying to walk into a Target or go anywhere else because even using a tampon and a pad at the same time didn't stop the bleeding. It was a total nightmare... 🙄 (like I mentioned before), but I feel like a new person now! My periods are way more manageable.

The only annoyance is the discharge. It’s been there all month—started light, but got heavier this past week.

I followed the steps correctly. Inserted on day one of my cycle and left it in for three weeks.
Took it out Monday. My period hasn't actually started yet, just the discharge. Probably that delay in bleeding you mentioned.

Hoping things level out next cycle. The discharge is irritating, both for me and my partner 😉, and I don't want to go back to other methods now that I've found NuvaRing 😉

Still have those nagging doubts about how effective it really is, even if I haven't seen any red flags. 🤷

I was wondering—has anyone else here using NuvaRing experienced any weight gain as a side effect? I know I’ve read quite a bit about it regarding birth control pills, yet so far in this group, nobody seems to have brought it up... I’m really hoping that such a side effect just doesn't exist with NuvaRing 😍

I didn't deal with any side effects at all while I was on the NuvaRing. Seriously, there was zero weight gain for me.
But then again, is it even possible for someone else to actually experience that kind of reaction? I don't know...

Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone here could help me clear something up regarding the NuvaRing. Here's the deal: I have epilepsy and I'm currently on medication for it. My gynecologist suggested the ring, explaining that it doesn't enter my bloodstream and works similarly to a Mirena coil. However, my neurologist is telling me to steer clear of it entirely. Does the official documentation say anything about using it if you have epilepsy?

Thanks so much! It doesn't explicitly mention epilepsy, but it does say it enters the bloodstream through the mucous membrane. So, the whole "ring" thing is a no-go for me. I was honestly starting to think I’d finally found a birth control method that actually worked for my life.

I'm planning to put it in tomorrow. I'm assuming the insertion process is pretty much just like using a tampon. But how exactly am I supposed to get it out later?? 😁

Hey everyone, I’m planning to spend all Saturday afternoon relaxing in the saunas. 😁
So, here is my question... am I safe wearing my NuvaRing through that? I assume it's fine, but I'd love to hear if anyone else has actually tried it.
Or... should I just take it out in the morning? I was supposed to remove it tonight anyway.
Is it better to just head into the sauna with it in, or would it be smarter to take it out ten hours early?

Just a heads-up in case anyone was wondering: using a sauna while wearing a NuvaRing is perfectly fine. 😉

I have a question for the women here using NuvaRing: what’s the protocol when you go to the gynecologist for a routine checkup and a Pap smear?

Anyone know what the current going rate is for a vaginal ring?🤔
