Are 10kV transformers harmful to your health?

Is hanging out near a 10 kV transformer actually bad for you? I’m at work right now, sitting about 15 feet away from one, separated only by a wall. The transformer is basically just one floor down from me. People always say the radiation levels are negligible, but does being exposed to that for an 8-hour shift actually do anything to your health?

Look, there isn't some massive catastrophe looming here. We’re talking about extremely low-frequency non-ionizing radiation, which basically just clings to the immediate vicinity of the transformer because of how the unit is built. No need to lose your cool over this...

We’re firmly in the gray zone here. High-voltage power lines emit non-ionizing radiation—essentially just intense electric and magnetic fields. There are plenty of theories floating around suggesting that living near these transmission lines might bump up your risk for certain cancers, but how on earth do you prove that? It took decades of research to finally get the government to acknowledge the link between smoking and lung cancer. If we were to legally recognize high-strength electromagnetic fields as a health hazard tomorrow, the liability for utility giants like Con Edison would be astronomical. My guess? Nothing will be legally codified for at least another century. Is it actually harmful? Honestly, there’s no way to know for sure. It’s probably not a major issue, but who can say for certain...🤷
