I’ve been hunting for this for quite some time now, though I suppose my persistence might be bordering on the obsessive. Does anyone happen to know where I might track down this film, specifically in its original English version? I am strictly looking for the English audio—no Italian versions for me, please! 🙄 If any of you savvy souls have stumbled upon a digital source or a reliable site, would you mind sending me a private message? I’m not entirely certain what the house rules are here regarding links to online downloads, so I figured I'd play it safe. 👎

I’m a firm believer in its merit, truly, but I just haven’t managed to carve out the hours to actually sit down with it—even though the book is sitting right there on my shelf, staring at me. One of these days, I suppose... 🙄
I mean, the movie itself is nothing short of brilliant; if memory serves, I caught it on PBS sometime last year, and honestly, I’d give anything to revisit it right this second, but life simply won't allow it. Tough luck. 😁

Besides, you can't exactly replicate the magic of seeing a young Claudia Cardinale on screen when you're just flipping through the pages of a book. 😁

Even if you manage to track down an English dub—though at least you'd get Lancaster's original voice—you're likely just looking at a truncated cut... I'm pretty sure the Criterion Collection release includes both versions, though!

It isn’t actually a shortened cut; rather, it’s the expanded Italian version. 😁
It turns out there’s a DVD release featuring both versions. I wonder if anyone in a big city like Chicago might have a copy lying around somewhere?
The trouble is, I just can't stomach watching Burt deliver those lines in Italian when he's supposed to be giving such a raw, visceral performance. And as it stands, that specific version is the only one currently circulating online. 👎

It’s pretty interesting—everyone seems to be raving about how great Lancaster’s voice acting was (even Burt himself went totally overboard). Even the critics over here in the States agreed that you really have to watch this movie exactly how Visconti intended—the long version, in Italian. Sadly, you can't even find a legal copy of that version anywhere in the US!

Man... I watched it with the German audio.😲
Claudia was incredible, but Alain Delon was a total icon.😍
