the legend of Tarzan

Just walked out of the theater after catching "the legend of Tarzan."
The guy playing Tarzan is a spot-on casting choice—really hits the mark. Christoph Waltz is great as always, though Margot Robbie felt a bit plain, and S. L. Jackson is just being his usual self, which honestly feels totally out of place here.
The whole Tarzan concept actually works quite well when you weave it into actual history; the subplot involving the Belgian Congo is pretty gripping, even if the filmmakers left a lot of that potential on the table—it felt a bit unfinished to me.
That said, I think they nailed the balance between being serious and leaning into that old-school pulp vibe.
It’s a good flick that draws some really nice inspiration from the 1984 masterpiece "Greystoke"... a solid adventure, but there's a lingering sense that something is missing... it doesn't quite hit that level of pure, soul-satisfying adventure it should.
It didn't quite reach its full potential, but hey, look at the competition in the summer blockbuster lineup—compared to all those superhero slogs and video game adaptations, this is actually excellent.

Has nobody actually seen this movie yet? 🤷 The box office numbers aren't exactly booming either—it’s only been out for a week, but still, what a shame.
I was really hyped for this one after watching so many interviews with the cast. The lead is great, and Margot is just... wow. 😍
Like people said, it’s not your typical story. There's a lot going on with politics, slavery, and animal trafficking. Alexander something and Margot Robbie were fantastic together. He plays such a brute, and I loved how much more serious his version of Tarzan was. The animal scenes were top-notch, and the scenery of the American wilderness looked incredible.

I’ve gotta say, I was pretty shocked by how much money this movie pulled in. Honestly, the legend of Tarzan had kind of slipped my mind, mostly because those old-school heroes from the early 1900s just don't stick in your head like they used to. 👍

It’s just perfect—seriously, absolutely perfect... and he is totally right for this role.

Overall, I really liked the movie! My only tiny gripe is that I didn't quite feel a deep emotional connection to the characters...

I am glad they moved away from the whole gay romance angle for this particular film, as it would have felt a bit excessive, wouldn't it? The movie isn't foolish, though I wouldn't call it extraordinary either. Is an hour and forty minutes perhaps a bit brief for the Tarzan era? Still, the nature scenes and the cinematography are truly striking. Honestly, the visuals alone make it worth watching!

I'm inclined to agree, though I suppose I'll still sit through the movie just to see him on screen.
The last time a Tarzan flick actually piqued my interest was back when Bo Derek was starring in one.

I haven't actually sat down to watch it yet. I just heard that Alex is starring in it, and honestly, at first glance, I didn't think he was exactly the right choice for the role. Maybe I'll change my mind once I see it, I guess. Though, I really don't feel like going to the movie theater at all. 😁

The movie has all the ingredients to be, I don't know, maybe not a masterpiece, but at least solid. You've got a decent twist with the non-linear timeline—Sir Tarzan heading back from civilization to the jungle instead of the other way around. Then there's Skarsgard and Margot, who are obviously stunning, Waltz playing his usual reliable villain role, and even S. L. Jackson, who is always a good addition. The cinematography is beautiful and the locations look great, but at the end of the day, the final product feels pretty lukewarm and underwhelming.
Just a 6/10. I’d recommend watching it if you just want to see a shirtless Alex for some reason. 🙂

I honestly think Alex has never looked better—and I can't believe I'm even saying that, considering how much I loved him back in the True Blood days 😵

He’s mentioned in several interviews that he was crushing 7,000 calories a day for three months, followed by nine straight months of intense bulking. He admitted it gets emotional thinking about everything he had to give up and those days when he just wanted to go back to eating and drinking normally. 😁

It’s actually pretty impressive that the guy is already 40.

If they’d just gone ahead and dyed his hair black, that would have been it.

I think I read somewhere that Michael Phelps was actually considered for the role of Tarzan, but apparently the director was totally put off by how wooden he was during that SNL monologue.
I mean, at least Phelps wouldn't have to bleed for the part; he’s basically spent his entire life pushing himself through the pain anyway.
