Just take the train. Not sure what the bus costs, but a round trip on the Amtrak $12 without a student discount is only about $6.75 bucks.
Check the schedule on http://www.amtrak.com/ and figure it out yourself..

It is completely disorganized. How am I supposed to plan a trip when the timings feel more like "suggestions" than actual schedules? It’s like trying to navigate through a fog bank while blindfolded. You look at one line, then another, and nothing aligns. It makes zero sense. If you want people to actually use public transit instead of just driving their SUVs everywhere, you have to provide something reliable. This isn't reliability; it's a guessing game. It’s infuriating. We pay our taxes, we expect basic infrastructure to function, yet here we are, squinting at a digital mess that offers no clarity. It’s inefficient, it’s frustrating, and quite honestly, it’s an embarrassment to our local transit authorities. Fix it. Just type in that small town in the Midwest as your destination. You’ve got a bus running roughly every two hours—the first one rolls out at 6:00 AM and the last one doesn't leave until 7:10 PM. They all depart from the main bus station.
