A few days ago during PE class, we were doing high jumps. I somehow landed all wrong and ended up breaking my leg. At first, I honestly thought it was just a bad sprain, but since the pain was unbearable and the swelling wouldn't go down, I went to get an X-ray... and sure enough, it showed a break.
Diagnosis: Fracture of the medial malleolus of the left ankle.

What I’m wondering now is whether I have any right to claim compensation if I don't have coverage through the school via an insurance provider like State Farm?
I was reading some things online suggesting that I could potentially seek damages from the entity that established the school—the local municipality—but the principal is insisting that doing so would essentially mean filing a lawsuit against the school and him personally. Is there any truth to that?

Thanks in advance!

I’m actually really curious about this because I ended up breaking my leg in two places back when I was in school. Since I was covered by insurance at the time, I've been wondering about the logistics—specifically, how does the process work, what steps do I need to take, and who exactly should I be reaching out to if I want to file for compensation?

If you didn't pay up for State Farm coverage through the school, don't expect to see a dime in compensation. It’s pretty straightforward. My brother broke his leg and didn't have the insurance paid up either, so he ended up getting absolutely nothing...

Hold on, let me clarify—I actually paid my State Farm premium at the beginning of the year... so I was just wondering if anyone has an idea of what the payout might look like. Basically, has anyone here actually broken something and gone through the process of collecting from their insurance?

It all really comes down to who you’re insured with. If we're talking about a minor injury—nothing that leaves you permanently disabled or anything—you aren't exactly looking at a massive windfall. You might get a little something for the days you missed, but don't expect a life-changing check. It's pretty small change.

I went through something pretty similar about four or five years ago... if you’ve been paying into your State Farm policy, you can probably expect a payout somewhere in the ballpark of $5,000-$2000 if my memory serves me right...

Back then, I ended up with a double leg fracture, which resulted in a 5% payout of the total permanent disability benefit. On top of that, they provide some kind of daily stipend for every day you aren't able to attend school... though honestly, none of that really matters to me today.

Ultimately, it all just comes down to how severe the injury actually is...

Man, it’s honestly such an uphill battle trying to get money for stuff like this because there's always some kind of loophole in the legal system that lets them off the hook. But you should definitely give it a shot. I actually broke my leg back when I was living in Germany—it was entirely the school's fault because a wardrobe fell on me due to how catastrophically poorly they had it placed in the room—but even then, I walked away with absolutely nothing. It’s a tough road, but if you can find a really solid lawyer, you might just be able to make it happen.

So my buddy just walked away with $5,000 because he got hit by a flying plum in the middle of school—broke his nose and everything. He actually got the cash, I swear it's true 😉

Anyway, I ended up breaking my fifth metatarsal. I mean, whatever, I guess... what even is that bone? First time I’ve ever heard of it. Does anyone know how long the recovery is gonna take??

I ended up with a double leg fracture back then, so I received 5% of whatever the permanent disability settlement was. On top of that, they give you money for every day you end up missing school... though honestly, looking back, none of that matters to me now.

At the end of the day, it all just comes down to how bad the injury actually is...

This is honestly the only part of the whole thing I actually like... haha... plus, I ended up being out of school for 49 days... so, how much does that even add up to these days??

I reckon $5.00 happens during the day... I ended up with a pretty nasty injury because of some teacher's mistake, and I walked away with about $2,500 from State Farm

Angela Lopez71 said:I think it’s... $5.00 To be honest... I ended up with a pretty serious injury once, and since it was actually the teacher's fault, I managed to get about $2,200 from State Farm.

Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. 🙂

Man, I was doing some stunts on my bike and ended up breaking my arm—double fracture, real nasty stuff. I ended up missing three months of school, plus I had those three months of summer break anyway 😁 I didn't even go back to school, honestly don't even know why :P

Hi everyone... my child suffered an eye injury at school today—apparently, she ruptured some peripheral tissue in her eye.
Does anyone happen to know if this kind of thing is covered by State Farm, and if so, what the typical coverage looks like?
Thanks in advance 🙂

Generally speaking, school insurance is designed to cover all types of injuries, or at least that is how it is supposed to work.
As for the amount, it really just comes down to the specific policy you have in place. Typically, the more premium the policy, the higher the payout will be.

How much coverage you actually get depends entirely on the specific policy. Generally speaking, the more premium you pay, the higher the payout.

Fair enough... thanks anyway!! 🙂
