Hey there. My doctor just gave me this diagnosis and sent me off for an abdominal ultrasound. From what I’ve been reading, it sounds like a liver condition triggered by toxins. Looking at my labs, my GGT is sitting at 111, which is definitely way too high. My ALT is 48 and my AST is 100. It’s pretty clear my liver is in bad shape, but I’m struggling to figure out why. What kind of toxins could be doing this? I don't think it's alcohol since I don't drink that often, and honestly, my diet hasn't exactly been great lately... anyway, if anyone knows anything useful about this, please let me know. 😢

Given the liver function test results, it is probable that we are looking at alcohol-induced liver damage. Since the levels aren't "screaming" just yet, I would characterize this as fatty liver disease, so there is no need for panic. However, a stricter dietary regimen is necessary, which should include a period of total abstinence from alcohol. Once the liver begins to recover, occasional consumption in minimal amounts might be possible, though it should never be a regular habit; subsequent regeneration cycles often result in lower quality tissue, meaning more scarring and non-functional tissue...
Other causes seem less likely unless you have additional markers indicating liver injury, such as bilirubin
