Honestly, if you’re dealing with a situation where medical staff is being bullied by certain doctors during IV starts, there’s this one super effective little trick. You just politely tell the "tyrant" that you aren't quite confident about the vein quality, then hand them the largest needle you can find on a silver platter—literally, go ahead and prep the alcohol and cotton balls too, just to be extra polite—and let them handle it themselves.
It’s especially funny because, according to the way things are supposed to work here in the States, actual physicians should be the ones handling all that "vascular management," even though we all know the nursing staff ends up doing the heavy lifting most of the time.
I mean, look, if you took 100 doctors in any major US hospital, I’d bet my life that at least 90 of them—maybe even more—wouldn't be able to hit a peripheral vein routinely, calmly, or skillfully. If you call their bluff like that, they won't mess up, and they'll definitely think twice before acting like a jerk next time.
