Over the last month and a half, my appetite has gone completely off the rails; I feel hungry constantly.
I’ve already put on about 15 pounds, and I just can't seem to get it under control. To be clear, I’m not taking any medications or supplements, and I consider myself healthy. There isn't anything specific I'm craving either—I'm eating the same things I
always have, just in massive quantities. Even if I sit down for a heavy lunch, I find myself starving again just two hours later.
I have no idea what could be causing this. My doctor suggested it might be
stress-related, but I don't buy it. It isn't a case of boredom eating; I am feeling
genuine hunger pangs regardless of what I'm doing.
Honestly, I'm at a loss for what to do next.
Thanks!

I’ve already gained about 15 pounds, yet I simply cannot find any way to control it. I am not taking any medications or supplements, and I am otherwise perfectly healthy. There isn't even anything specific calling to me—I eat the same things I
always have, just in massive quantities. Even two hours after a substantial lunch, the hunger returns and I feel forced to eat again.
I am at a loss as to what might be causing this... my doctor suggested it could be related to
stress, though I find that hard to believe. It isn't a matter of eating out of boredom, because
the hunger strikes regardless of whatever I am doing...
In short, I am quite unsure how to proceed...
Thanks!

I have dealt with this exact same issue for as long as I can remember, and I have never truly uncovered the underlying cause... the consequence being that I have been overweight since I was six years old. Now that I’ve been diagnosed with PCOS, I tend to blame my hormones for everything...

For me, there are periods where I have absolutely no interest in food at all, followed by these intense bouts where the hunger is relentless.

What can you actually do? Perhaps get your hormones checked or run some comprehensive blood work... it might be stress, or perhaps you should consider whether there is some deeper, subconscious issue driving you to eat...

Have you checked your blood sugar lately? A sudden spike in appetite can sometimes be a sign of hypoglycemia or even diabetes.

dalja- How’s your hormone cycle looking? It could just be a hormonal imbalance.

That was my exact situation when I found out I was pregnant, because I actually had my period and had absolutely no clue anything was changing, so I just kept eating and eating, and now here I am, struggling to lose the weight...

What you're experiencing could be a symptom of something much more serious. If your physician didn't immediately refer you for specialist testing, you won't find answers at that clinic. Honestly, if things get worse, you might even have grounds for a medical malpractice suit.
It would be worth teaching her a lesson for relying on that "it's just stress" diagnosis—a one-size-fits-all excuse for every ailment that saves them the trouble of actually doing their job without needing referrals or tests.

I know of a case where a woman carrying an extra 100 pounds was constantly lectured by her doctor about losing weight, only for it to be discovered years later that she had chronic hypothyroidism. And it wasn't even a specialist who figured it out; the patient had to read medical manuals, diagnose herself, and then fight tooth and nail just to get a referral to an endocrinologist.😢

Just enjoy the pizza and maybe start hitting the gym or running a few miles a day

That's my routine. No jokes about it. I overeat constantly, honestly, but I hit the pool every other day in the winter, plus running and biking. It works

In the summer, it's just swimming

I am definitely not pregnant. My hormonal cycle hasn't shifted at all. Honestly, I can't point to any significant changes in my
lifestyle or anything else that would be triggering these emotional cravings.
My doctor isn't showing even a shred of interest in this. I’m going to demand my bloodwork results
and a full hormone panel. Once I get my blood sugar checked, I'll provide an update.

Aha, I went through the exact same thing—my period came along normally, yet my appetite became absolutely insatiable...
That is actually how I realized 😲
