Yeah, right, and then I'll probably sprint straight to my primary care doctor before grabbing a gin☕

I’ve been down at the beach for a few days, and yesterday I noticed some spotting. Honestly, I have no clue why—my first thought was that I messed up my birth control schedule (I took my pill about 6 or 7 hours late).
But the bleeding just won't stop, so obviously, I called my mom. She thinks it's some kind of infection because I don't bother changing out of my swimsuit after swimming—I just sit around in it for two hours until it dries. At first, I thought she was being ridiculous 🙄, but now I'm starting to wonder if she might actually be onto something.
The blood is bright red and clear, it doesn't really look like my usual period. It's light, but it’s constant.

And please, don't tell me to go see a gynecologist right now, 186 miles I'm way out here and my doctor in Washington, D.C. is already on vacation. I'll head in once I get back home, but waiting this long while feeling uncertain is driving me nuts.

Has anyone else dealt with something like this? I'm low-key freaking out and could really use some female perspective.

Thanks so much!

You might be experiencing some spotting, which is actually pretty common if you're on birth control. My advice? You should probably stop taking them, and if the bleeding doesn't clear up, give your OB-GYN a call at the very least.

Kate Moore21 said:Hey, just wondering—were you on birth control when you had those spotting issues, or were you off them?
Because I was taking them for a month and ended up spotting for almost two weeks straight, only to find out later that I actually had E. coli. Now I’m stuck wondering if it was caused by the bacteria or if it was just my body adjusting to the pill?

Sarah Flores said:How did you catch that E. coli? Was it through a vaginal swab or a urine test? Even though my OB-GYN is at Planned Parenthood, I can always hit up my primary care doctor to check for that little beast... or pretty much any other bacteria...🤷...

I finally decided to actually start taking care of myself (since the symptoms I've been having are clearly some kind of infection—I've got lower abdominal pain and I'm peeing constantly, probably a UTI flare-up, but it's acting up again), so I got a referral for bloodwork and a urinalysis, plus some antibiotics... I'm not sure if they'll actually catch the E. coli from this urine test, or what...? Honestly, I just hope I can get this sorted once and for all. I'm heading to the gynecologist in late August or early September... which is about time after 14 months... ☕... I'm just praying I don't end up with a yeast infection after the antibiotics kick in...👎
Should I just load up on yogurt, or should I go ahead and grab some probiotics right away?😁

Honestly, just stick to more yogurt. I haven't even dealt with a yeast infection myself, so 🤷 finish your course of antibiotics first and see how you feel—but hey, taking an extra probiotic wouldn't hurt at all!

Okay, so I’ve got a bit of a situation on my hands. Basically, about 11 days ago, my boyfriend and I had sex for the first time—we used a condom both times. To be totally honest, though, we did try a little "practice run" the day before that without protection—I honestly don't know what I was thinking there—but it didn't really go anywhere because it was painful for me and he couldn't fully get in, so we just stopped and moved on to other things. It wasn't super painful, and I didn't notice any bleeding at the time, though I might have missed it since I was wearing red underwear (I have a total thing for red, bless my heart). Then, four days ago, we had sex again, and we were careful with protection this time too. Again, more red underwear, so I didn't see anything. But then yesterday, I noticed this brownish discharge—just a few spots, really—and when I wiped, there was a tiny bit of something else there. Based on my usual schedule, my period isn't supposed to start until the 26th, and I am low-key freaking out. This is the first time I've ever dealt with spotting, and I can't help but wonder if it's an early sign of pregnancy or if it's just my body getting ready for my period. I've actually been suspecting I might have PCOS for a while now, so maybe it's related to that? I don't know what to do, I'm honestly spiraling a little bit... is this normal? I'm just really scared because this has never happened to me before, especially right after being intimate.

edit: My cycle usually runs about 31-32 days

So, I’ve been dealing with this spotting again—you know, that brown discharge that shows up right before my period starts, usually anywhere from two to seven days out—and it’s been happening consistently for the last few months now.
There was actually a stretch of time where everything felt totally fine and balanced, mostly because I started taking some herbal supplements, and once I did, the spotting just seemed to vanish into thin air.

I'm curious if anyone else here deals with something similar, or if you've noticed any patterns where certain foods seem to trigger it or maybe help calm things down?

Light spotting doesn't always have to happen right before your period starts—for some people, it actually shows up afterward—and then there's also what they call ovulation spotting.

Anyway, I was wondering—have you actually made it to an OB-GYN yet, and if so, what was their take on things? Have you ever had your hormone levels checked?

I started getting this random spotting right after my second kid was born, basically once my period finally decided to show up again... I’d never dealt with anything like it before, it used to just be straight up period time without any warning.
Lately, though, it's been showing up about 3 or 4 days before my actual cycle starts, even though everything else is usually super regular...

So, here’s the deal... my period started Monday around 9 PM, but it wrapped up by Tuesday afternoon and just vanished. I wasn't even surprised since my cycles are usually irregular anyway, but it didn't really come back. Just some spotting on the tissue—pinkish and dark brown. It’s Friday now, and the whole thing feels way too short. I have an appointment at my OB-GYN on October 15th, but I’d love to hear what you all think about this or why the spotting might be happening in the meantime.
Do you guys count the first day of your cycle if the flow starts late at night, like 9 or 10 PM, or not?
Thanks.

Honestly, I don't think you have much to worry about. I’ve had months where my period lasted a full seven days, and then suddenly it just shrunk down to four. One month, it just decided to be shorter on its own, and I didn't have any infections or anything unusual going on. I suppose it's just your body adjusting itself.
The only real concern would be if you were dealing with actual pain or other strange symptoms, which might suggest an infection. But if that's not the case, I wouldn't stress too much if I were in your shoes. Everything seems fine.
I mean, things like stress or even just your diet could definitely impact how long it lasts—at least, that's what I've read in a few places.

And I’m going to count the very first day regardless of when it actually shows up, no matter the weather. If it arrives at 10:00 in the morning or late at 11:00 at night, I suppose I'll just count that whole day as day one anyway.
