Stomach issues after eating... it's hitting me hard.

The thing about an abscess is that it develops this little capsule, which is why it just keeps filling back up over and over again. That’s exactly why doctors usually recommend a surgical procedure to deal with it. If the surgeon doesn't manage to clear out the entire capsule during the operation, you're just left with leftover pieces that will eventually cause it to refill...

Well, in my case... it was right under my armpit. For the longest time, I actually thought it was just an ingrown hair. It hurt like crazy; I couldn't even touch it without everything getting inflamed and draining. It was a nightmare because it was growing internally and I didn't realize it until it suddenly just... vanished on its own. Now, all I'm left with is a large scar.

But that doesn't mean your situation is identical. You should probably head to a doctor just to be safe.

Goodness, everyone is making such a huge deal out of a simple pimple. I suppose if it were me, I might feel a little embarrassed showing up to my doctor's appointment with a "problem" like that.🙄

Maybe you could just try using a sterile needle to gently press it out? I don't think it would be fatal or anything.🙄

And you are DEFINITELY NOT supposed to squeeze it.
Even if you manage to empty it, it just fills right back up cyclically, so squeezing it doesn't actually accomplish anything at all...

Man, there’s just so much going on with it... the swelling went down a bit today, but the pain is still pretty intense. There’s this spot just above the cyst that’s turned a dark shade of purple, but I’m not really worried about the color as much as the fact that it feels rock hard—not right on the cyst itself, but maybe half a centimeter above it, sort of an elongated shape. I’m definitely going to have to see a doctor. I’m not actually from here, though I'm studying in Chicago, and since I haven't switched over to a local physician yet, does anyone have recommendations on where I should go in the city? Thanks for all the advice 🙏

Nah, the Bartolinijeva gland is on the mucosa, not the groin. And trust me, when those get inflamed, the pain is next-level specific. This definitely isn't that.

Just hit up your primary care doc, get a referral for general surgery, and have them drain it.

She should apply some Betrion first to help it drain; I gave her those exact instructions. Eventually, she'll need to have it opened at the clinic. Those minor procedures can often be handled in primary care. It isn't an atheroma, though—it's an inflamed hair follicle. It isn't dangerous, but it needs to be cleaned out, treated with antibiotics, and the hair removed. She simply needs to be careful with how she shaves, as some people are just more prone to this.

The 3% hydrogen peroxide is meant for disinfection. You could also apply something like Neosporin, which acts as an antibiotic and contains a bit of corticosteroid... iodine works for disinfection too. For some people, this happens more frequently. Generally, you shouldn't squeeze them because my patients often try to do it without disinfecting first, which just makes matters much worse. It really depends on the skin type.

Since my thighs rub together when I walk (you know the feeling), the area got irritated and inflamed until it swelled up to the size of a small hazelnut—no joke. So, naturally, I grabbed a needle, sterilized it with alcohol, and popped it. A whole mess came out—mostly blood, some pus, and one massive hair. I cleaned everything up with hydrogen peroxide and slapped a bandage on it. Today, there’s just a tiny little dot left. But hey, I’ve always been prone to picking and poking...

Personally, I would NEVER let my mom, sister, boyfriend, or anyone else mess around with something like that—especially in such a sensitive spot. It isn't even okay for me to do it myself; I'd much rather leave it to a professional (my mom definitely isn't one). If it’s a parent, a partner, or a sibling—well, unless they're an actual MD, they should stay far away.

I actually dealt with this exact same issue myself, and let me tell you, it was anything but pleasant.

To make matters worse, my gynecologist and the entire medical team over at Petrov were complete idiots.
I spent two agonizing months struggling through it, only for the whole thing to flare right back up just a few weeks later.
It was a total catastrophe.
